The Forum Decides: What Movie Should I Watch?

edited September 2012 in Movies and Shows
Eight months later, it's time for another exciting installment of The Forum Decides! And this time we're upgrading from TV show episode... TO MOVIE

An important ground rule: the movie needs to be currently legally available for rent or purchase as a digital download (or video streaming) in the United States. I don't have a Netflix subscription, so we're mainly looking at the iTunes Store's catalog (unless I coincidentally already own the movie I guess). This will also prevent anyone making me rent porn or something, so, bonus.

(UPDATE: Since people have been trying to suggest outside of iTunes, I'll further allow any free online streaming source where you can one hundred percent verify its legally available status and also I can play it on my Apple TV (so YouTube or Vimeo pretty much). Since this may widen the field a bit beyond iTunes' decency filters, I'll go ahead and say NO PORN.)

Beyond that, there's no restriction on what movie you suggest. It can be your favorite film of all time omg, or you can punish me for the sins of a past life with the worst movies imaginable (though be aware that I am a longtime MST3K fan and actually enjoy bad movies, so, you know, do your worst).

As before, the Law of the Orange Belt states that Jakey's vote counts for double in the event of a tie. I'll be accepting submissions in this thread until next Friday (9/7) at 12:00am PDT (your personal vote can be changed at any time before the cutoff), and will download/stream the winner that evening. I suspect I will live-forum-post along with the film as well, so you can all join in on the madness!

And heck, if anyone wants to join me in remote synchronized movie-watching, let me know and we'll figure out a good time to hit Play.

Rock the vote!

VOTES SO FAR:

Babies: 1
High Fidelity: 1
The Horror of Dracula: 1
Killer Condom: 1
Princess Mononoke: 1
Rubber: 3
Tommy: JAKEY
Tremors: 0

    The hammer horror dracula films.

I love them, they are wonderfully made and the casting is superb.

    In order, they are:
    The Horror of Dracula
    Prince of Darkness
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave

These are the main Christopher Lee ones and thereafter they start to get a bit silly. But these three are wonderful.

EDIT: If you do end up watching even just the first one, I will gladly do a live skype on it, they are that good.

Which one are you voting for?
  • edited August 2012
For the sake of simplicity, The Horror of Dracula, since it is the first and brilliant.
  • edited August 2012
    High Fidelity

It's like the 80's in the early 00's! And Jack Black is there!

    Babies.
  • edited September 2012
Ladies ladies I know all about makin' babies. (Yum yum yum yum).

    Princess Mononoke
  • edited September 2012
Making babies? I'm a bit of an expert on these things.
  • edited September 2012
I'm just gad it wasn't Baby Geniuses.

More submissions! And then people will have to start teaming up so it's not a million-way tie!

In fact, I'll just go ahead and say that you can change your vote at any time before the voting cutoff. This should allow for easier tie-breaking and movie-deciding alliances. But for now, have your say and make your case so that others might follow!

Rubber. watched it a couple of weeks ago. Pretty entertaining. A little weird.
  • edited September 2012
anything from this. might i suggest Killer Condom?
  • edited September 2012
Not on iTunes Store. RULES, MAN
  • edited September 2012
I've only definitely heard of one of these suggested movies so far. I don't watch many movies.
  • edited September 2012
Oops, nevermind. My vote isn't on iTunes... friggin' heathens. Upon further consideration... Tremors.
  • edited September 2012
I dunno... Free movie vs. Buying a movie?

Seems like some arbitrary rules there.

I can't tell if those are legit or not. It's a private channel, but there aren't any ads, so the guy isn't profiting. And Youtube has a page that lists free movies that are definitely legal.
  • edited September 2012
Yeah, I was mostly worried about obtaining a movie through illicit means. If YouTube says it's cool, I'll go with them.

Mononoke is okay because I own it.
  • edited September 2012
I vote for The Who's Tommy. VOTE FOR THIS SO THAT YOU MIGHT SEE MY AWESOME TIE BREAKING POWER MANIFEST ITS ELDRITCH GLORY IN YOUR PUNY MORTAL UNIVERSE.

    Also,
I'll be accepting submissions in this thread until next Friday (8/7) at 12:00am PDT, and will download and watch the winner that evening.

    I assume you mean 9/7?

they're very legit. that company put up 150 of their own goodbad movies on youtube for free for everyone.

That wasn't the official site for troma movies as their channel is this page. They also have a site.

Near as I can tell, the user "tromamovies" is not affiliated with the actual company.
  • edited September 2012
i remember hearing that troma uploaded about 150 of their own movies to that account

    In that case, Mononoke.

But he's probably already seen Mononoke, forcing him to watch something he's already seen is LAME!!!

This is why I wanted to limit it to one source. No ambiguity.

Deadline date has been corrected to prevent temporal paradox.
I vote for The Who's Tommy. VOTE FOR THIS SO THAT YOU MIGHT SEE MY AWESOME TIE BREAKING POWER MANIFEST ITS ELDRITCH GLORY IN YOUR PUNY MORTAL UNIVERSE.

Little does Jake know that I only implemented this Forum Rule to get him to come back and post again BWAHAHA

But seriously guys, Tommy is now ahead. Unless you all try to pool your resources and outvote Jake. As if that were even humanly possible!

EDIT: I've updated the rules to include confirmed legally available free films on YouTube and Vimeo (since I can play those on my Apple TV). I have, in fact, confirmed that the YouTube channel Scott linked is legit (I did all your research for you, YOU'RE WELCOME), so Killer Condom is in.

For the record, I friggin' love shitty Troma movies. But I'm not sure how anything could compete with Class of Nuke 'Em High Part II: Subhumanoid Meltdown.
  • edited September 2012
So it is legit then? In that case, good show Scott.

Nonetheless...I'll set my vote on Rubber (for now). Whatcha gonna do about it?
  • edited September 2012
I still want to watch Rubber...
  • edited September 2012
I'm counting that as a third vote for rubber.
  • edited September 2012
    Fourth I guess.

(For Rubber if you didn't notice.)
  • edited September 2012
plz don't mark my vote for anything other than Killer Condom
  • edited September 2012
I didn't! Only your own assertion counts as a vote.

Last day for voting, people! I'll purchase/rent/stream the winner tomorrow night.
  • edited September 2012
And the votes have been rocked! By popular decision, I shall be watching the indie-horror-comedy new classic Rubber! (this is awesome, I've been meaning to watch this one for awhile now)

My current plan is to press Play on my remote control at 6:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, but if other folks want to join in, we can figure out a time that works best for everyone. I will be posting on the forum and probably also on Twitter as the movie plays out. See you all tonight!
