Like sunshine on a cloudy day

edited July 18 in Games
In my efforts to maybe start to become a grown-up a little, I’ve decided to start a regular workout routine. I’d love to be a little more physically fit, and maybe shave off a few pounds while I’m at it.

Of course, in my efforts to work video games into my life as much as possible...

#1: I misread this thread title as "like Mario Sunshine on a cloudy day".

#2: I'm mad at you for owning Konamix, because I can't find any older than Max2.

#3: After realizing my reading mistake, I noticed the quote in the title.

I haven't tried workout mode on Konamix, but I've never liked those modes much. On Extreme and also Disney Mix you could make it tell you your calories even in regular play, but most of the others make you use the separate mode.

Konamix, eh? There's a lot of good songs on there that haven't been repeated since. Bask in the "glory" that is Let Them Move, because Konami finally realized how crappy that song is and hasn't used it, anywhere, worldwide, since this mix came out. Also, Make a Jam! rocks and is my ringtone. Absolute is my other ringtone.

Tips for beginners: Don't return to the center of the pad after hitting an arrow. This will kill you once you get to the harder songs. You don't lose points for stepping where there are no arrows. You could try Lesson Mode, but I found it pretty useless.

Luckily for you, the Song Options menu on Konamix is so hard to find that you probably won't get into the bad habit of using speed mods.

"I can see a dream in your dance, I can see TOMORROW in your dance! We can call it... Our hope."

I've gotten pretty good at dancing around the pad without returning to center, but it occurred to me just now that if my sole goal were to work out, this would make me work a lot harder on each song. ^_^

Here's a good question: is there any way to bring up a master list of all songs? I don't like having to play within a limited subset for three songs in a row. My song tastes can be fickle at times, and I want to be able to just dance to any tune at any given time. I've seen people do this at the arcade, and wasn't sure if such a master song selection screen was unlockable in Konamix.

In the options menu there's an All Music mode. I think it's there from the start, but you may have to unlock everything first.

I had the same idea. Use Wii sport, get fit, etc.

But I am lazy. Gave up after a couple of days and just started replaying Twilight Princess. Given this up too...

Man, I've just been doing a bunch of push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks!

Well, Hamelin, you could always get Mario DDR too. It was for the Game Cube. Apparently, the normal mode is easier than the normal mode on regular DDR games. I like it and gets my heart rate up.

I enjoy DDR: Mario Mix, but it's pretty sedate on the normal mode. Probably on account of there being too many classical tunes.

I just play my DS while riding my bike. *nodnod*

    ...

okay i lied. that would be suicidal, and I can't condone it.

Mario Mix was awesome. Sure, it doesn't get up past about seven-foot level too often, and the perfect window is GIGANTIC, but when you turn Mush Mode on, some of those songs get pretty challenging. If it had had Edit Mode, it probably would've been one of my favorites. I guess I'll just have to stick to making ultra-hard Mario steps on Stepmania.

I switched to Workout Mode today, and I don't think I'll be going back to Game Mode again any time soon, at least when it comes to my fitness program. I like the ability to set a time/calorie limit on gameplay. It was a little strange that there was only one difficulty per song, but you could still try and select higher difficulties.

Played some Mario Mix too. I started a new EX game on the highest difficulty, and so far it's still horribly easy. But it's got Mario songs and fun additions like Koopa-stomping and Hot Potato game variants, so I still love it. May have to check out that Workout Mode.

The Mario Mix Story Mode only goes up to the second-highest difficulty. The hardest difficulty is locked until you beat the second-hardest in Free Play. However, you can't unlock a harder Story Mode. Believe me, I've tried.

Man, DDR Hottest Party is HARD. I've gotten used to the hand movements (tip: flick it, don't swing it), but there's only like one six footer, a sprinkling of sevens, and then the vast majority of the songlist is eights and above. There are hardly any 'generic' songs... it's all "fast energy burner", "slow reading challenge", or "midrange tricky step patterns". And on top of that, they throw in Mario Mix Gimmick Steps.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but on average, probably the hardest mix I've played.

There's no Song Options menu, which makes me a happy camper because now all the speed mod losers are complaining about having to actually READ the arrows. Still no edit mode, though...

I have no idea, I just saw a sign that said that outside of a Victoria's Secret outside of a hotel I was staying at. I immediately decided I need to throw one.
