THIS GUY SAYS OTHERWISE, AND HE'S CURSING A LOT AND HAS DANCING SANTAS, SO I'M NOT GOING TO ARGUE WITH HIM.

    ALSO I FEEL LIKE YELLING.

That's International Caps Lock Day, not ALL-CAPS DAY. We don't observe ICLD here.

    linux-1.jpg

What sort of crazy medieval keyboard has the CAPS LOCK key at the bottom.

Also, my CAPS LOCK key isn't in all caps! It's "Caps Lock" What sort of crazy wireless keyboard did you buy me Mario?
  • edited October 2007
Also, apple has set their new keyboards to be Caps-Lock resistant!

YOU DON'T OBSERVE ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU'RE ATHEIST. HOLIDAYS ARE JUST "DAYS" TO YOU.
  • edited October 2007
You can't spell holiday without -day!
  • edited October 2007
I CAN DEFINITELY SPELL IT WITHOUT THE MINUS SIGN, THANK YOU.

ALSO; PLEASE NOTICE THE INTENSIFIER "JUST."
  • edited October 2007
Being an athiest just means that I don't believe things without evidence. The divine nature of ALL-CAPS DAY, however, is readily apparent through empirical observation. It's not a matter of faith.

Not only is it a scientific fact, it's a SCIENCE!-tific fact!
  • edited October 2007
It's not all caps day. You lose.
  • edited October 2007
It's not ALL-CAPS DAY either. ALL-CAPS DAY must be spelled in all caps.
  • edited October 2007
Why are people typing everything in capital letters?

Should I edit this thread to reflect the actual holiday being celebrated, or just post here on November 14th as if it were a new thread?
  • edited October 2007
Could you somehow bump it down into the bowels of the forum ready for if we should ever need it?
  • edited October 2007
God damn it, this heresy will not stand!

Anyone observing ICLD should be shot on sight! Or, failing that, ridiculed!

    Not people, just Khan.
  • edited October 2007
Khan is people! Scratch that, Khan is good people! He was just misinformed. I won't hold it against him.

bUT all-caps day IS ALSO INTERNATIONAL!
  • edited October 2007
International Caps Lock Day has a different name and is therefore a different holiday. But it doesn't even have an agreed-upon date of celebration, so I choose to not observe it on either date. ALL-CAPS DAY is a much cooler name for its religious pun anyway.

Actually, being an athiest means you don't believe in any god or supernatural entities. Its in the root of that word, and its accompanying prefix. Consult your local library for more.

That being said, its particularly remarkable that you would intentionally use the word "divinity" when self described as a non-believer of things godlike or spiritlike. Once again, library.

Shallow and pedantic? Mmmmyes, shallow and pedantic.

Also: HAY GUYS I STILL WANNA TYPE ALL STUPID LOUD STFU.
  • edited October 2007
A supernatural entity is an entity for which no evidence exists. If God existed he wouldn't be supernatural, and if there was credible evidence that he exists I would acknowledge it.

As for the "divinity" bit, you are aware of a little thing called "humour," right?
  • edited October 2007
    I know about humour!

My great-grandad got his tongue shot off in World War 2. He never talks about it...
  • edited October 2007
That's either the best or the worst joke I've ever heard.
  • edited October 2007
Oh? So you're agnostic now? Way to stand by your moniker, man.
  • edited October 2007
No, I just don't conform to the strawman of atheism you seem to have built up. An agnostic considers the existence and non-existence of God to be of roughly equal plausibility, or at least thinks that God's existence is likely enough to give serious consideration to, while I don't consider it to be any more likely than any other clearly fictional character actually existing.

I am grabbing some popping corn.

I consider myself more agnostic than atheist, but that's because I realize there really isn't any way to absolutely say there is no divine presence of some sort. But I am almost 100% positive that the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim God(s) is/aren't real. I'd just feel like a hypocrite if I said with absolute certainty that there is no higher power/creator/god when I yell at crazy theists for making such absolute statements about their existence.

This is my position as well. I love you, Adam.

EDIT: ALTHOUGH, I can understand that the distinctions between agnosticism and soft atheism are very blurred anymore. I love you too, DI.

    Same here. Great explanation, ser.

    RECAP TIME.

Drooling Iguana: "As for the "divinity" bit, you are aware of a little thing called "humour," right?"

Amoeba Boy:"I know about humour! My great-grandad got his tongue shot off in World War 2. He never talks about it..."

Drooling Iguana:"That's either the best or the worst joke I've ever heard."

Me: "Oh? So you're agnostic now? Way to stand by your moniker, man."

Drooling Iguana: "ATHIEST SELF DEFENSIVE REFLEX"

So apparently DI doesn't believe in irony, either.

Anyway, just tell me this: if you don't believe in things that are unverifiable, then how can you believe in existence? Despite all theories to explain the origin of the Universe/Reality, none can account for root cause. Stuff (matter, energy, or any other unknown form of stuff) does does not come from out of nowhere, and that really is scientific fact, pertaining to all natural laws. That seems more than enough reason to at least consider the existence of something that may be considered God. Now, as for the validity of various faiths... the word "fiction" may be better applied to them, than it is applied to what is essentially an X in a gigantic equation.
