I'm Going to CHINA!

First: COMMIES! WOOT!

Anyways...time for my story.

I got this letter in the mail about a moth ago from People to People Ambassador Program...asking me to go to China! So, I'm like, "yeah, just another scam". But it was through school, so my mom took me out to the informational meeting. Come to find out, it's frikkin 6 grand to go. So I'm all, okay, well, it was a nice thought. But my mother actually paid the 6 grand to let me go! Now I've gotta make up some of that money...(so no other Christmas presents). That's HALF of it.

I ALSO had to interveiw to be able to go. That was last Sunday, and it was pretty easy. It was me and 5 other girls >.<. I didn't have my hearing aid in, so I didn't have a clue what question we were answering (we all went around answering the same questioin), however I used the others' answers to figure out the questions.

A half a week later, I got the news: I'm gonna go!

This is gonna rock ass! (Dare I say rockin'?).
So break out the champagne!

    You wear a hearing aid?

I'll be honest, I wouldn't want to go to China, what with the pollution, internet censorship and the fact that I don't speak fuck all chinese...

North Korea however is a different matter...

Serephel should be happy for you, he's developed a HUGE boner for China in the last year. And it's lucky you didn't have to go first, eh?

Good luck in China, you'll be able to buy like a CEO over there, from what I hear.

Take them down from the inside! They'll never see it coming!

I'd be a little concerned about how eager your mother seems to send you to China. Are you sure you get to come back, too?

Do some research on reliable web proxy services so you can still browse the forums.

You'll have to learn to speak their language, and then mate with their women. In time, your differences will be forgotten.

At least, that's what my brother did.

Buy 'Making Out In Chinese' by Ray Daniels. It's fun little phrase book.

When I was in China last summer, I had no problems accessing the Belt. Apparently China does not see the Belt as a threat. You guys should all be offended.

    When do you leave?
  • edited November 2007
    Next Summer.

Ah, not for a while then. Are you going anywhere else besides Beijing? What two other cities?

Is it bad that I'm more worried about going to communist countries than I am worried about going to the ghetto?

I don't think a Wii can output that kind of resolution. :(

Don't forget to buy lots and lots of really cheap electronics while you're there. Don't go buying a new iPod and stuff for the trip. It'll be way cheaper to get it once you're there.

Pick up an absurd amount of contraband and smuggle it back into the country!

Pirate CDs and DVDs, software, off-brand products, cheap labor!

    Think of the profits!
  • edited November 2007
No! don't do that. That's whay they EXPECT you to do. You'd be playing right into their hands.
  • edited November 2007
Then bribe their hands with some of your ill-gotten gains!

    Hey that reminds me...
When my Aunt was in China, she brought back a Chicken Little DvD that was pirated for my cousin, and it was "rated" R.

I actually went on a trip with People to People when I was 11, so.... gosh, it's been 6 years. I went to Australia though, not China... and yeah, it cost a LOT. Every year after you go on this trip, they'll keep sending you letters asking you to donate or go on more trips, haha. Also, I found that the majority of the people on the trip had the expenses either paid by their filthy rich parents, or filthy rich relatives, so they spent the majority of the trip not really appreciating how lucky they were... but other than that, I had an absolute blast! People to People really sets up a good program (at least in my opinion they do...) You end up going to places you'd never be able to go even as a regular tourist. When I was in Australia, we spent the night in an Aquarium in Carnes(sp?), Australia, went to some presentations not open to the public, and got some really personal tours after hours of some museums. Plus the hotels you stay in are usually awesome, hahaha.

You'll probably have a great time... Any type of world travel is a good life experience, and I think it's nice to have at least one of those trips very... easy-going. I went to Europe last summer, and had about the exact opposite treatment, haha. I went with my history teacher and she taught us how to live very cheap, living in hostels and stealing bread rolls given out at breakfast to eat for lunch by putting peanut butter on them (we were required to bring peanut butter on the trip.)

...But yeah!! You'll probably have a blast, and learn loads. Are you starting the monthly meetings to learn about the culture and all that?

Not yet. Those start in January, I think.

For the love of god, do not drink the faucet water. Don't even use it to brush your teeth. I did, and the consequences were horrible.
