The ticket price for the full show was around $1500. They had a lesser ticket for $175. Guess which one I got? I'm just saying I probably won't get into some of the really awesome stuff, so don't hold your breath on that.
Next year, may I recommend volunteering as a Conference Associate? It's the equivalent of the $1700 pass, in exchange for 20 hours of work over the five days. (Many times, your work is making sure the sessions run smoothly, so you're shaking hands with famous peoples, too.) It's a tremendously awesome deal.
My connections were Franklin, Grant, Jackson, and Lincoln.
It is open to the public, yes. It helps if you are a member of the IGDA though. IGDA members get a $50 discount on their tickets. Too bad the only IGDA chapter even remotely close to me isn't especially lively and the meetings are at times I can't make.
If I understand your primitive, arcane system of measurement correctly, 50 degrees is significantly above freezing. That's plenty warm enough for this time of year. It's -9 here (using a civilised system, of course.)
At least I can convert to and from Kelvin through simple addition and subtraction.
Celsius and Kelvin are fundamentally the same scale anyway, one just has its 0 point at a place convenient for day-to-day life, while the other has it at a point convenient for SCIENCE!
Well, GDC has come and gone. I'm afraid I didn't take any pictures because I hate playing photographer, but pictures were taken by others in my group and I aim to collect some of those.
As for how it went? The first day out to California was basically crap and had us walking around in the rain for an hour and a half looking for our hotel because apparently nobody had the foresight to actually write down the address and bring it with. I got sick from the traveling once we finally found the hotel, but was able to sleep that off and felt fine the next morning.
As for the actual event? Well, I did catch a round of Brawl, but you'll have to excuse me if I made myself NOT blow the whole event trying to play it. I also saw Reggie Fils-Aime in person. I also saw the hosts for the X-Play show, which I think I watched once by accident. I'm not really a "celebrity worshipper" so you'll have to excuse me if these things weren't especially exciting to me. Although one of the guys I was with did scare off the host guy for X-Play by asking if he could take his picture. I beat a few other random persons in a round of Unreal Tournament 3 and won a small bag at the Intel booth which I proceeded to fill with the various swag I collected from other booths. There were plenty of camera and motion sensing interfaces on display, some better than others. There was an odd force feedback device thing that was intended to replace a mouse being shown in a couple booths too, but it was kinda bulky and not an effective mouse replacent. Neat anyway though.
I spent some time in the Career Pavillion. Job prospects seemed good for a programmer. I'm not ready to move out of state yet though so I wasn't looking too hard. I actually heard the turnout for companies was much bigger last year too. I'm hoping next year will be better.
Another guy in the group I went with competed in the artwars competition. It was at a Princess Bride Game booth. Apparently they are making a Princess Bride game? They didn't seem to have much to show about that just yet. Anyway, the guy who was competing actually won a round. His drawing can be seen here. It's the line drawing with no color. The other ones didn't look so great in person. It looks like it says they had 45 minutes, but it was actually 30 minutes to do this. They ran a finals face-off of all the winners too, but the art from that doesn't seem to be posted. His piece from that was much better, but the other winners really put in some effort too, so he didn't place in that. They all really wanted to win a wacom tablet. The art was awesome in that round.
Hopefully I'll get those pictures to show off at some point.

It's an okay site for some news, I occasionally left it on while making dinner last semester. Morgan is a tool, I don't like her, she's on because she has breasts. When talking about Prime 3, she pronounced Samus as "Saymus," further confirming she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about.
Sounds like you had fun! Looking forward to pictures!

Gotta wait until March 9th now.
Wait, that's not right.

Fahrenheit's just screwed up, though.

Reggie!!! His name is crazy, but he's still cool!
