I'm an uncle ^_^

A personal thread about my personal life, so apologies if you don't like such things, but I'm really excited!

At 9.55 last night my sister gave birth to a healthy baby girl, weighing in at 6 pounds 1 ounce. Her name is Paige and she's absolutely beautiful!

As it stands, my sister said I can choose the middle name, but I'm at a bit of a loss for what to choose. Any recommendations would be nice :)

Don't pick anything that will give the girl stupid initials!

    Eevee. DO IT.

Nah, give her a real name. Novelty names are annoying. My mom's middle name is Anne, and some of my female cousins have Lee, but those don't go with Paige too well. I got nothin'.

    I like Isabelle, personally.

    Anything but "marie".

    Voltron.

Possibly Isobel. I like that spelling better because it's a Björk reference.

You need to figure out a freaking awesome middle name so everyone's like "Man, screw that first name, we're gonna use your middle name because it is the best."

You have to think about her initials. What is her last name? Does it start with S? If so, you absolutely do not want to give her a middle name starting with M.

Even if not, I agree, don't use Marie. Too common. Same with Ann.

Have you tried going through one of those name books, either in the store or on the internet?

I like Lena for some reason.

Ok, I have a thing for Lena Yada, so sue me. She did accept my friend request on myspace. Next stop, third base!

Coolest middle name I've ever heard is Caramel. I don't even know the guys first name, everybody just calls him Caramel.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but none of them are really clicking with me. If they are nerdy or anything, make them nerdy enough (and preferably normal) that they'll go under my sister's radar.

Freyja? I've taken a recent interest in Nordic mythology.

(I won't pretend to have known these etymologies off-hand; I picked names I thought sounded neat and cross-referenced with those of interesting origin)

Eris - Greek goddess of discord; the name of the recently-discovered largest dwarf planet in the Solar System that caused all the controversy over what defines a planet, and by that extension a delightful Xena: Warrior Princess pun
Kali - Hindu goddess, holds both the creative and destructive power of time
Parvati - Hindu goddess, a manifestation of the Hindu Divine Mother representing love and spiritual fulfillment
Colleen - from Irish cailín (girl); really cool Joanna Newsom song about a girl that used to be a whale

Feel free to alter any of these spellings if you need to conceal their origins. You can't go wrong with goddess names though; I feel that middle names ought to be outstandingly unique, when they aren't pulled from one's ancestry of course.

On second thought, just pick Jennifer. That's my suggestion to you, and if you choose it, it will have been me that inspired you. Obviously.

What about Apollo? The god of truth, and also the name of the new Ace Attorney (which I just got today).

I have decided on a name. Her middle name is now Jennifer!

Jennifer?!? That wasn't anywhere in my suggestions.

    Wait, there it is.

I picked your suggestion, so could you return the favour by picking my suggestion? Update your Comic. ;)

No joke, I was going to suggest Jennifer. I always liked that name for girls...

    Sure.

I would have said something fancy and English.

    Like Alyson of Bath?

She was hardly a respectable woman. Seriously, Bruce. Do you want to make this girl into another Alyson?
