The Summarization Game!

edited May 2008 in General
Okay all you mac-os-x-ers, let's see what interesting one sentence summaries we can come up with. Let's think of this as cliff notes for the world. The idea is too find a full text of something, and have os x summarize it for you in one sentence. To do this, select a body of text in either Safari or TextEdit, go the application menu (the one that is the name of the program) and select services -> summarize. Make sure it's set to sentences, and drag the slider all the way done to get one percent.

For example, the wikipedia biography of vin diesel summarizes to:
In an interview on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, he said that he changed his name to "Vin Diesel" while working as a bouncer, because in that business one's real name is not usually given out.
So, that's all you need to know about Vin's life. Next.

Wow that summarizer actually works pretty well for compressing things down to one sentence.

Now if I ever actually get that mac book pro, I might be able to partake in this.

Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

That my uncle was excited by the tale of the sculptor I did not wonder, for what thoughts must arise upon hearing, after a knowledge of what Legrasse had learned of the cult, of a sensitive young man who had dreamed not only the figure and exact hieroglyphics of the swamp-found image and the Greenland devil tablet, but had come in his dreams upon at least three of the precise words of the formula uttered alike by Esquimaux diabolists and mongrel Louisianans?.
