Wii Homebrew is 1000% easier
Now that the Homebrew Channel has been released. Freaking awesome.
Since I didn't want to boot up Twilight Princess every time I wanted to mess with some homebrew, this is a godsend. It's actually fairly easy to install too.
First, you're going to need a copy of Twilight Princess, a SD card formatted to Fat 16 (just FAT in windows, I used my roommate's camera to format the card and it worked fine) and the Twilight Hack, there are instructions on that page but basically you're going to want to do this:
- Backup your Twilight Princess save, this process will eventually overwrite it. If you haven't played Twilight Princess, start a new game and save it when you can, I think this is necessary but I'm not sure.
- Replace/create the data.bin file with one of the saves in the Twilight Hack download in "/private/wii/title/RZDx/", check your disc and the Twilight Hack page to figure out what save you need, there's text on the inner edge of the disc that will tell you.
- Download the Homebrew Channel .elf file and throw it in the root of your SD card. Make sure it's named "boot.elf". Create a folder named apps in the root as well.
- Optionally, download the Apps package off of the download page above and extract the contents of the folder in there to the apps folder. If you don't do this your Homebrew Channel will be empty.
- Copy the Twilight Hack save to your Wii (It's obvious what save it is, it has a custom icon). This will overwrite your Twilight Princess save, so if it's not backed up you've lost your save.
- Boot up Twilight Princess and load the save. Run forward and talk to the dude standing in front of you. The game will freak out and start scrolling text, this is good.
- When the text stops scrolling, you'll see a disclaimer, hit the RESET button on the Wii to install the channel, or hit the POWER button to cancel. Hit RESET.
- If all goes well your Wii will reboot and there will be a new channel in the main menu. That's it! Future updates for the Homebrew Channel can be downloaded straight through the menu, apparently.
I tried it out this morning and the channel works excellently, I played Maniac Mansion on ScummVM and it was awesome.

The N64 emulator it comes with sucks balls though
Monkey Island on a widescreen TV? Awesome
Linux is useless on the wii atm.
Needs a Commodore 64 emulator. My favourite commodore game will probably never be out on the VC, you see
Just remember not to update your wii, because nintendo will invariably move to block this and pirated VC games.
There's no Commodore 64 emulator yet, but there are plenty of others.
