Hollywood Unoriginality Ratio: WALL-E

edited July 18 in Movies and Shows
WALL-E was so cool! Incidentally, I went and saw WALL-E on opening night with some friends at, uh… damn, I have no idea what theater we went to, as someone else bought the tickets. I do know I was in San Mateo though! That ought to count for something.

'Definitive rodent movie'? I preferred The Rescuers Down Under. How can you compare France with Australia?
  • edited July 2008
I guess I meant "the definitive rodent movie of the last year or so." I agree that The Rescuers Down Under was totally rad. I'm also a fan of The Great Mouse Detective.

The next Pixar movie is Up, and it comes out next year on May 29th. They probably are going to run its trailer in front of Bolt or something, even though its not made by Pixar. They have their next few movies all planned out. You can see the list of them in the upcoming section here

Pixar got the rights to John Carter of Mars?!? Holy shit!!

Cars is getting a sequel? Awesome! I thought I was the only one that liked that movie.

That does seem odd. I never saw Cars but it got some of the lowest ratings of any Pixar movie and made the third least money. I'm still pulling for a sequel to The Incredibles.

I'm guessing Cars had good toy sales. That movie seemed tailor-made to sell toy cars. I haven't seen it yet either, but I think I'll Netflix it soon.

I really do love both of those movies...

But I think my favorite "definitive rodent film" (though it IS an adaptation) would have to be The Mouse and the Motorcycle.

I think you're all forgetting a little film called The Witches

    Ah, crap! You're so right.

    Another rockin' adaptation.

I had no idea that was made into a movie! I loved that book!

Was that the one with the kid that turned into a mouse?

That book was good, but the end was weird cause the kid's all "How long do I have to live?" and the grandma's like "Probably as long as I do." So, like, five years or something.

They're STILL making toys from that movie. I actually bought some... if they were in-scale with my Hot Wheels cars, then it would be amazing, but unfortunately they're too big. I hope the sequel uses more *real* cars... I like trying to spot 'em.

Yup...Angelica Houston is the witch. Creepy. I think if I remember correctly, the mice are done using stop-motion esque work...?

Both are now in my Netflix queue! Rockin'!

    American Tales? Anyone?

And yes, Witches was cool. I have that on DVD in fact. The one time in my life I went to a Wal-Mart, they had it for 4.99. couldn't resist.

    Pff. Mice don't wear pants.

Also, it's called An American Tail. Y'see Rudy, it's a pun.

What about the sequel- An American Tail: Fievel (sp?) Goes West?

I think I prefer that one to the original...
  • edited July 2008
    Did somebody say Go West!?

    AMERICA FUCK YEAH

    Wow, I...

    ...um...

...I don't know how I feel about that video.

I'm going to stop talking about it now.

Another mouse/rat adaptation: The Secret of NIMH. It was a good one.

I watched that in my fifth grade class, I think. I remember it was pretty good, but I don't actually remember much about it.

It was about a mouse widow whose son is sick, and needs help. She enlists the aide of a group of rats who were part of an experimental project called NIMH and they have super intelligence and whatnot. I always liked it myself. If I remember correctly, the book was good as well...

i'm still goin' with An American Tail. it's teh bwst.

The first film was certainly a lot darker than the second, and I think the art style was a lot better. On the other hand, I think I liked the musical numbers in Fievel Goes West better, and Jimmy Stewart was awesome.

However, WALL-E was better than all the rodent movies mentioned.

Does Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles count as a rodent movie, what with Splinter and all?
  • edited July 2008
Yes. In which case, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze was totally radical.
