Kimya Dawson!

Okay, raise your hand if you know who Kimya Dawson is. Oh? I saw some people not put their hands up! Good! That means you get to hear her for the first time! Kimya Dawson is a 35 year old vocalist and guitarist who used to be one-half of The Moldy Peaches. Since the band's hiatus in 2004 she's been working on more solo stuff, though. What does that mean?

It means deeply intimate-sounding, soulful versus.
It means music that's fun.
It means songs that don't take themselves seriously.
It means Kimya is your friend, and she loves you.

But really, my words can not possible do Ms. Dawson justice. Her lyrics and tunes are the things that you'd listen to on a rainy day while you're wrapped up in your favorite blanket. They're what you listen to when you're driving down the interstate at four in the morning. They're what you listen to when you want to fall in love with music all over again.

The youtube video is my favorite song. The video's by some French chick who hates math I guess? It doesn't matter. The song is pretty, and I couldn't find it anywhere else on the interbutts.

    I had never paid any attention to Kimya Dawson or the Moldy Peaches until I saw Juno. That was one awesome Dawson mixtape of a soundtrack. I haven't picked up any of her albums though, since her projects all seem to be on perma-hiatus. I hate getting into something new to me, only to find out that it's already over.

    I'd never heard of the name but while I listened to it I thought, "This sounds like something from Juno".

    I'm not sure if I feel like a genius or an idiot.

    Pƒƒ. I'll just keep on liking things because I like 'em. Besides, they conceded that the movie had "a killer indie soundtrack", which is all I was trying to say.

    Besides, Geoff, you're white and are not overly fond of the film.

    Hey, I like The Moldy Peaches! Sure, it's quite a change from Gorerotted and Dimmu Borgir, but hell, I like to vary my tastes.

    it's interesting looking at all the bands she's worked with or toured with or who appeared on her stuff, it's quite a large sampling of different musics.
