Friend Code FAQs and assistance

edited April 2009 in Games
I've always had problems hooking up to wi-fi with my DS. Therefore, I cannot bestow anyone my friend codes, as I cannoot recover them. My Wii hooks up fine, but I can't get my DS to work. If anyone else has any problems with their nintendo wi-fi hookups, sound off here.

Nope. Pretty straight forward. Just go into settings and search for a signal. Friend codes are listed in each game. Just go through the options until you find it.

Yeah, but I can't get on my wi-fi and access the codes. I type my WEP key in, but it says its wrong. That is not true, but because the access port is hooked up to a computer that recently crashed and got rebooted, I can't find the router settings on my PC.

Your codes will be accessible whether there is a wi-fi signal or not. If you can't access your own network due to security settings, that's a problem with the security settings on your personal network, not the DS. I don't know shit about computers,t hough. Wait until someone else can get online and help you out.

Alright, thanks for the help. But I don't see how posting my codes will help if I can't get on wi-fi?

To your credit, you have to know something about computers if you were able to go through the process of registering (unless you hired somone to do it for you)

I have cash to burn. And I am amazingly lazy.

Crap. Well I DO know some stuff about computers, but nuts to that. I'm not tech support and I don't have a DS and I have never really had to concern myself with wireless security. If people are in range of my wireless, then they are parked in my yard and a dog will be out barking at them.

I give him dog treats and he licks my hand whilst I steal your internetz.

The DS only supports obsolete WEP encryption for wireless networking. You might have your network set up with the newer, more secure WPA encryption scheme, which won't work with the DS.

My USB Nintendo connector won't work, either.
Nintendo support isn't very good at helping with these things.

You may need to enter the cumbersome and lengthy hex equivalent password for the DS to connect, as opposed to a passphrase. I know I had to do that with my Wii when connecting over WEP (it's now set up over WPA so that isn't an issue, thankfully).

Generally the USB WiFi dongle is a good workaround to such issues. If yours isn't working, you might want to get it swapped out by Nintendo, if it's under warranty.

Another option would be to change the router settings and disable security entirely. You know, if you like to live dangerously.

hell, the bnestb router you're gonna get will enable hobos from up to 700 feet way to get wifi on their laptoips. Dman hobos. better keep your securitry high, man.

Yeah, but my connector doesn't work because McAfee recognizes it as a foreign drive and doesn't allow usage of it.

I didn't know it was a requirement to own a labtop as a hobo. Is it also required for monks to have sex nightly? <light sarcastic tone>
