Happy New Years all!

My New Years was mostly uneventful, because I was on a plane to Guangzhou (south China) for most of it, getting to my hotel shortly before the bell tolled 12. But New Years day shall be filled with traveling, good eats, and certainly misadventures and shenanigans!

How is everyone spending their holiday?

    Happy New Years.

I spent a couple hours watching the SciFi channels annual Twilight Zone marathon. Some of them are actually pretty good, but others, usually the ones where they attempt some kind of action, are really bad and I can just laugh at them.

My family finished Tropic thunder just in time to watch the ball drop!

Just curious, do West-Coasters see the ball live, at 9:00, or is the broadcast delayed?

I believe they show it live and replay for local midnight.

Hanging out waiting for more party peeps to show up. Alcohol time impends.

Lucky Californians. You get to watch Sir Elton John twice, then...

    Happy new year!

We went out for fancy ramen, then came home and watched Get Smart all night. Woo!

I went to Embankment in London to watch the fireworks. They put you on a massive bridge for three hours where you can drink, get high and fall about drunkenly for the amusement of other revellers with the police turning a blind eye to it all (Unless you do something really stupid and or dangerous, obviously).

I did none of this because it was so cold that my feet had turned into little stubs barely fit for walking on, but the fireworks were spectacular and the huge projection system that projected videos of various people wishing Happy New Year was great :D

Woo! What a New Year's! We got together with our Kalamazoo friends and some friends from undergrad. We got DRUNK!! It was awesome.

My girlfriend and I both got a stomach virus. We spent New Year's laying in bed trying to sleep, ignoring our aching legs, drinking flat ginger ale, and simultaneously puking and having diarrhea. Happy New Year guys!

Amoeba boy that sounds like the most effing great way to celebrate the New Year.

I went over to my girlfriend's, burned an old man made out of clothes, a mask, sawdust, and plenty of fireworks that represents the old year (Año Viejo, local tradition), had a delicious meal and then at around 2 AM met up with some friends in hopes of finding a party, while my girlfriend stayed home because she didn't wanna drive around aimlessly until we find something to do... I should have done the same.

Well, we ended up going to a party with at most 25 people were I was so bored I almost died, and since we had all taken one car I had to wait until one of my friend's took us back to where we had left our other car at around 5 AM. We all had had at least something to drink but no one was even near drunk (regrettably). When we were back in the car of the friend at whose house I was gonna crash for the night, and we were at maybe 10 km from his house, a traffic policeman made us stop... He started to threaten my friend with sending him to jail because he was drunk driving, (even though the law says that drunk driving is sanctioned by a ticket and Idon't know how many points off your license) but we were able to talk things through, and that's when the policeman's partner decided to ask for a bribe. Well, 20 minutes and 20 dollars later, they left and we were ready to get home... But the car wouldn't start. We had to push the car for some 50 meters while my friend's girlfriend tried to make it start.. And then, after all that, we got home watched the sun rise and half of some crappy movie and slept until noon.

Anyway, guys, I really wanna wish you all an AWESOME 2009. You are all incredible, bright, and funny people whom I wish all the best for! I hope this year will be a great year for the Belt and all its inhabitants! I also hope you get to have that little get-together, and take millions of pictures! Happy 2009!

I went to a coworker's house for a mellow little party. Opted to crash on the couch rather than drive under the influence. Nothing too crazy, which is honestly how I like it. Good year so far!

I went to my boyfriend's parents' house, they have a movie-themed costume party every year for New Years and this year it was the movie Clue, it was really fun. His parents were the hosts of just a small party with a few close friends and relatives, and we all came dressed as one of the characters from the movie (I was the singing telegram girl). We played through a murder mystery type thing, that was really fun since we had to play characters that were given to us, and based off of all the clues people gave us we tried to guess which one of us was the murderer, and how we did it. Only one person got it right, and it was the person who ended up being the murderer, haha. Then we had a round where we split into 3 groups and played 3 rounds of 3 different board games, and the person who got the most points from the games altogether won a prize... Then we watched Clue, and took a break to do the countdown from someone's atomic wristwatch, and finished up the movie and went home. No alcohol, just some crazy fun at a costume party, haha. Fun times.

I had a small party at our house. Had dinner and played a few games. Then me and my friend went to another friends house, where we proceeded to play Rock Band and watch James Bond movies until 5am. Then I went home and slept til 3.

I got to experience New Years at three hours before GMT, since I'm in Iraq! I ate a pound of chocolate and backed up our servers! GO ME!

If it's all the same to you, I hope things to be very uneventful for you over there, John.

I hope you understand. (There can be exceptions if it's good.)

MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTION IS TO ALWAYS POST IN CAPS.

    GOOD LUCK TO YOUR EYES.

You can't use one holiday tradition to drain the spirit stores of another holiday! That's an atrocity!!!

Additionally, ALL-CAPS DAY will become meaningless for you! Unless you post all lowercase, which will probably get you told off.

Happy Late New Years! It was the first night in a while where I could sit around and play video games all by my lonesome, which was much needed.

I spent my new year playing Texas Hold-'em with my drunk/high parents, who then proceeded to win the parents of the year award on the first day by getting me drunk/high.

They are on your trip with you? Which Island are you on?
  • edited January 2009
We started on the big island, then on the 30th we went to Maui, and now we're on Oahu near Waikiki Beach. It's been kinda stressful, but enjoyable. I'm just upset I missed so much time with my friends.

Define "high". Which sort of substance are we referring to? reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeefer?

This is it? 2009 is so far strangely similar to 2008. Where are my coed naked video game parties on beds of dollars, euros, and yen?

    I'm disappointed.

Hey, just look at it this way, only 6 years until flying cars, a baseball team in Miami, 9 more Jaws movies, hoverboards, power clothes, pepsi perfect, the weather service, fingerprint doors...and probably a lot more I'm forgetting at the moment.

    Oh, no lawyers either.

Don't forget the eradication of dust, and video games that don't require the use of your hands, and dehydrated pizza, and clothes with built-in chicken sound effect buttons, and uh... sports almanacs.

Dust-repellent paper, view-screen window shades, fresh fruit upon request from a garden-thingy suspended above the kitchen table, free-roaming public trash cans, and Mr. Fusion.
