Retro Game Challenge
Just got this game for the DS and it's pretty neat. It's basically a collection of games made in the style of famous games from the 8-bit era. Some of the games are a bit primitive (as they're meant to immitate some very early NES games) but the later stuff like Star Prince (overhead shoot-'em-up,) Guadia Quest (Dragon Quest/Warrior clone) and Robot Ninja Haggle Man 3 (basically Ninja Gaiden crossed with Simon's Quest) are pretty awesome.
The early ones aren't too bad either, they just show their age. Cosmic Gate is as good a Galaga clone as I've ever played, although I never liked Galaga that much, and the first two Haggle Man games are pretty neat puzzle-platformers. Rally King (an overhead racing game that kinda reminds me of RC Pro-Am) takes a bit of getting used to but it's fun once you get the hang of it.
The nice thing is that while the games are modelled on old NES stuff, they're designed to imitate the games from the '80s as we remember them rather than as they really were, so they tend to incorporate a few subtle improvements to make them better than the games they're imitating.
