I could really use a glass of milk right about now. I used to chug that stuff back when I lived in a country where you could trust that the milk isn't filled with manufacturing chemicals.
I always liked 2% growing up because it tasted so rich and delicious. I used to HATE skim milk because, like Adam said, it always tasted spoiled to me.
But now I buy skim for myself because it's a bit healthier. It tastes fine to me, though whenever I DO get 2% it tastes really really good.
Don't believe those skim-milk-is-healthier-than-whole-milk lies. Consider how much milk you actually drink in a day? Whole milk is only 4% fat. It's much healthier than other sources of saturated fat. And you do need some saturated fat. It (most likely) aids in the production of testosterone. Avoiding saturated fat will turn you into a gigantic pussy.
This thread has made me go to the kitchen to go get milk. I personally love whole milk, but that's because in my house they never buy it, so I really miss it.
I would only drink whole milk for a while, which made 2% seem really watery. Then I ended up going a week or so without milk for some reason, and was able to drink 2% again.
If it weren't so bad for me, I'd drink half & half. It's buttery and delicious.
I've tried goat's milk before, and I didn't like it at all. Maybe it was my imagination, but I swear-- it tasted like goat. I've been on a family's farm enough times in my life to know the distinct smell of goats, and as soon as I tried goat's milk, I could taste it. Grossed me out.
Soy milk on the other hand, I find quite delicious. For drinking, really, I've never had it enough to try in cereal, but eh.
For everything else, I always tend to use 2%. Tastes just fine to me, and I haven't had enough experience with any other type of milk to have an opinion of what is better.
I think the proper term for the tang of goatmilk is "goaty".
I crave soymilk once in a while, the chocolate stuff. It tastes good. It doesn't creep me out like chocolate milk, which I have seen go bad and separate in the container a few too many times, poured out the chunks. But I'm too much of a cheapskate to go spending $4 on a two litre carton of soy milk. Plus I'm freaked out about too much soy. It's unnatural! Things should be as close to natural state as possible, and always in moderation. Chugging 2 litres of squeezed soybeans, not so normal.
Therefore, hot chocolate from Rocky Mountain chocolate factory, made over the stove with milk. It has chocolate chunks in it, which I chase after when I'm all done, melted to the bottom of the cup.

Well you're not supposed to suckle the goat directly. Common rookie mistake.
Interesting. The color code around here is as follows:
Red- Whole
Blue- 2%
Yellow- 1%
Pink- Skim
I assume the semi-skimmed that Bruce speaks of is similar to the 1%/2% denominations of milk we have.
So what we can learn from this is that color codes for different types of milk vary by brand and/or region, and some places may not have the same selection line-up.
Something more to note is that the more fat they remove from the milk, the more sugar they add. Skim milk isn't necessarily healthier.
Have you heard of carrageenan? It's a gel extract from algae or seaweed that's used as a food thickener and smoother, among other things.
They add the stuff to skim milk, and voila. "Super Skim" (available at Wal-mart), the thickness of which is somewhere between 2% and whole. It's very weird.

In bags, since that's the only civilised way to buy milk.
Though I agree with Jakey, it does make for some good chocolate milk.
And most milk goes to cereal or baking, the cat, because I do not drink it. Very rarely when there's fresh chocolate chip cookies will I have a glass.

I transitioned to skim milk in high school as part of a multifaceted effort to lose weight. It wasn't very successful, but I'm used to skim now.
My kids don't care, as long as it's cow's milk. They tried goat's milk once. I wasn't brave enough, after their reactions.
