Hmm, I'm not seeing the setting in the admin control panel, but I'll keep looking into it.

Well, honestly, I'm fine with no images in signatures.

As am I; I've found the avatar to be a sufficient way to distinguish one's posts. but I don't see much reason to restrict it as long as people keep their signature images at a reasonable size.

Also, I checked the image that Kirby's trying to put into his sig, and it's the result from one of those "Which character are you?" tests. I think that's just about the last thing we want in people's sigs around here.

One year later! Heh heh heh... heh. Ahem. Thanks for reminding me that this issue was never resolved, Trireme.

We've decided not to allow images in signatures at this time. The potential for clutter and abuse is too severe. We (Stef and I) feel that the avatar is more than sufficient to display custom perosnalized images.

52 weeks later, as it were...

So which one of us has become evil for no apparent reason in that time?
  • edited May 2007
I think I've become somewhat of a jerk lately.

What becoming evil for no apparent reason feel like? I'd hate to think I might have gone to the dark side without ever knowing it.

Also, the no images is nice. If it was allowed I'd say there'd have to be a size limitation as in dimensions more than kilobytes but basically the same deal as the avatars. I'm not sure if this is doable for the sig, but no big deal.
Also, this tempts me to think up some new ways to abuse the forum like when I brought up that blank name idea. (egads, maybe I AM turning evil.)

I checked, there didn't seem to be any method to limit images in signatures by size. If there were, we might have included them. As is, no dice!

    That's what I figured.

Hey, I'll own up to being very against sig images. Many of you weren't with us back on the TWC forums, where fugly sigs were the rule. They tended to be blinkly, large, and they most typically adorned the single-word posts of complete morons.

But aside from their tackiness on TWC, I don't like that sig images (visually) break up the conversation on a forum. Headers and footers on posts mean that less comments fit onscreen.

Perhaps you've noticed that we still occasionally accrue a forum member who is only here to advertise his or her comic? Picture a big ugly blinking seizure-inducing checkerboard image drawing attention to that member's every useless post.

    Well, my test was successful.

I'll change it back in a couple of days. :D

    You can still use <img>.
