Steam on Mac and Portal is free for a bit.

edited September 2011 in Games
As the title says Valve has released steam for OSX. Also Portal is currently free for Mac AND Windows. See, they're trying to make game purchases count for any platform, so you can play your games in OSX or Windows as you wish. This is pretty cool stuff. A Linux client is pretty much a sure thing down the road too.

Just a heads up. If you haven't played Portal for some god forsaken reason, DO IT NOW!

Downloaded it today, because my new computer can actually run things from the last five years. Loving it so far.

I was very happy to finally play Portal again! Hopefully they port Half-Life 2 over quickly so I can play the rest of my Orange Box for Windows.

Oh yeah! I heard about this a few days ago. I assumed you all knew though. Oh well, no harm done. X'o'Lore is on the job! Or something equally untrue.

I just downloaded it. Maybe I'll play it sometime.

I wonder if they'll ever get round to porting GMod, that would negate the need for having Windows on my iMac :)

Just downloaded it, and aside from the fact that it crashes before it launches, it also makes my magic mouse disconnect all the time :\

Hah! Jokes on you! The magic mouse crashes for every-other program my parents have!

    It's magically useless?

Actually, I've realised it's because my batteries had popped loose and kept losing their connection.

    Why all the hate? :hulk:

    Disqualification!
    Battery Fault!

I was hoping we could keep this thread free of rampant anti-mac sentiment/Mac vs. PC arguments, I thought we were above that. Guess not. Meh.

Yes, I can just sense the contempt here. It's practically oozing.

I like Macs, I just dislike Apple's software aesthetic, their rampant need for control, and the magic mouse. Gah.

Oh, I wasn't trying to start a PC/Mac war, I was just making terrible jokes as I saw them. Don't get me wrong though, I do indeed hate Macs.

Isn't a computing platform a bit of a weird thing to aim your hate at? :\

For the record, Steam and Portal work perfectly fine with my Magic Mouse.

Wouldn't know. It wasn't steam that caused it, I just thought so at the time. Steam won't run for me. It updates then says I have no internet...

Yeah, it's less "hate" and more "irritating". I for one enjoy my start/flag button, the dock-bar can burn in hell.

It's a preference thing. I don't care for the OSX style either, but it works for some people.

In the mean time things sound like they are a bit slim and perhaps not perfectly smooth yet for the Mac, but this is simply a beginning. Their are improvements happening as we speak.

It's nice to know that Windows can actually legitimately be a choice and not a requirement. I certainly have my gripes about Windows too, so I don't really care that much.

I just downloaded it now, very awesome. I've played through portal twice before, but it's awesome to finally have it on MY laptop.

I'm sure everyone already has it, but if they don't Portal is free on Steam till the 20th (Didn't catch it till now so you only have a day to get it).

Oh right! I guess I just assumed everyone got it the last time. I had noticed this yesterday.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone did. I just figured I should probably mention it anyway.
