Thanks, everyone!

edited August 2006 in Zelda Comic
I'm going to try to be as helpful as I can, and become everyone's friend (hopefully)! Seeing as I'm new, (as I've said now for the SECOND time), I don't really know what it's like. So thanks to you all!

Wouldn't this 'thank you' message go in the same thread as your plea for help?

    Do you people think I'm a noobie and/or weird? I don't think I fit in... :(

Was that supposed to make me feel any better?

Stop being a smartass, you're making me angry.

And you won't like me when I get angry.

Wrong comic book character there, Jakey.

But yeah, new guy: Settle down.

Kiaka Oriosa, people have probably said this in private messages, but generally, if you wish to participate in civil conversation on a messageboard, it's a good idea to
    a) introduce yourself on the Introductory Thread
    b) contribute to conversations as they are happening
    c) post something of substance (e.g. contribute IF and WHEN you have something to contribute)
    d) contribute only to a couple threads at first, until you get the feel of the messageboard (reading without posting is called "lurking" ...and despite the stalker-ish sound to it, it's perfectly acceptable ...I personally spent months lurking at many messageboards before I started posting.)

Contributing to conversations that are months old is very rare, unless you have something rather important or relevant to add to the conversation. Repeating the last word of the last post as a question is generally not a good idea...and if you're unclear on something it's probably best to send a private message to the person who wrote the last post instead.
Let's say there's a thread from December 2005 about trying to figure out where to find a font that looks just like the one used in an old video game, say Zaxxon. No one was able to answer the question.
    Bad:
Resurrecting this thread, months later, to post "Zaxxon was a cool game...."
(It's better to start a new thread: "I was reading the old posts and was reminded of Zaxxon by this one. Man, I used to play that game ALL THE TIME in elementary school. What was your favorite game in elementary school?")
    Good:
Resurrecting this thread, months later, with a polite, discrete name of / link to the font in question.
    Hope that helps.

I remember back when I first joined these forums (or at least the forums that spawned these forums...). I joined in August '04, and didn't post till January '05. Though that was because my computer at the time didn't like to receive activation e-mails. Anyhoo, once I was able, I only posted, like, twice a week. I never really started to post A LOT until the big OB reset. It was mostly because I'm cautious and try not to make anybody hate me. I think I may have gotten the hang of it... Nobody hates me, right?

How could we hate someone with a crossed out name?

I'm only new too, Kiaka (I have less posts than you!) but I don't think I've managed to make any enemies yet! *touch wood*

I know from other forums, just try to follow the general forum rules, don't multi-post, and don't make any enemies. And follow tips, there have been some great ones on this board. :D

I'm thinkin' that since this thread was started in April, Kiaka is no longer a new member.

I'm new too, obviously. My thinking:
    Introduce myself? Nah, screw it.
And I've been to plenty of other forums, so I'm well mannered (for a forum junkie):D
