Well, I know some people do it to heighten the sensation or whatever of stuff they do, but I just think it's fun to have your perceptions messed with a bit. Your body and mind just FEEL different, and that's fascinating. Also, at least with alcohol, people get a lot freer and it can help loosen things up socially.

But, of course, moderation is important. You don't drink 20 shots of tequila just as you don't spend all day smoking a pound of pot. Start slow, do it with friends who can guide you, and figure out where your comfortable zone is. Just enough to change your awareness without having negative repercussions.

    No.

Sorry, but that's just how I feel.

Personally, I have never felt any desire to get drunk or high. I have caught glimpses of my subconscious through dreams and sketches and I know that within me lurks a terrible, messed-up person. The last thing I want to do is short out my higher functions and inhibitions, putting my id in control of a conscious and fully functional body.

No, no I wouldn't, because I'm totally cool with you doing whatever, because it's your choice. I just wouldn't join you.

    Bingo.

That's fine. But saying "I wouldn't do it" is different from saying "Anyone who does it is dumb."

I didn't mean it like that, hence the "no offense meant" comment.

So who likes smoothies around here? I myself prefer a nice strawberry, personally I believe bananas are the bane of man, and should be exiled to the lake of fire, but meh.

Well I was talking more about drugs than alcohol. Alcohol in moderation is one thing, but drugs can be damaging and highly addicting.
  • edited July 2010
And what's your basis on that? Too many coke parties get the best of you?
  • edited July 2010
I've known people addicted to drugs, it ain't pretty.

"Hey, remember how your mom used to put those special sprinkles on our ice cream whenever I came over to your house?"
"No. Remember? the drugs? the time in rehab? I don't remember a lot from back then."

The child I knew, inside my childhood friend, is dead.

I was going to make a snide comment about you not having an impressive post count anymore. But I'll be damned if you didn't just palindrome the shit of that thing.

To be fair, alcohol is a drug. It's a substance that you ingest that messes with your body and your perception of reality. Drinking too much can kill you. You can get addicted to it. So why is alcohol instantly capable of being used in moderation when others aren't?

I understand the point, but you're making blanket statements about all illegal drugs, when I'd argue that marijuana is probably less harmful than alcohol, and there are others that can be used sparingly without ruining your life.

As with everything, getting addicted is harmful. It doesn't have to be in the category of 'drugs that are illegal in the US' to be something you should be wary of. Just like everything else, drugs are full of grey shades. You can't just say they're all the same.

Noted. I doubt it will change my view on said substances however. Also it's not about them being legal or not personally, I'd rather avoid drugs (in any form) entirely.

Your frontal lobe is not always your friend. In most situations it isn't. You mostly need it when you're trying to figure out something new. It acts as a hub for all the other info you have stored in your head. Slightly inhibiting it will actually help you to recall information. One or two shots before an exam will help you remember the material you studied. In a social situation, you don't need to analyze what's happening. You'll react faster and more appropriately if you have a few drinks in you. Most of the decisions you make are made before you are even consciously aware of the options. It's translated by your pre-frontal cortex as an emotion. when you are trying to think too much, you ignore the emotion and start trying to figure out the problem the hard way.
