So, the 3DS?

Excited? Worried? Already planning your old DS' fate?

I must say, I thought it'd be a bit gimmicky, but I tried one yesterday, and was expecting the sort of pop out and float in front of you 3D, but it was actually a very subtle use of the technology, adding some damn cool depth to the games.

Only problem is it took me a few seconds to adjust to the 3D effect and if I moved my head too much, I lost it and had to adjust again. Still, I'm very excited about this! (Pretty much for Ocarina of Time alone!)

I sorely need a new DS since my current DS Lite can't interact with my router's encryption. But alas, too poor to buy jack shit, so it will be years before I see a new one. Still, I'm always glad to see 3D being used properly and not as a gimmick.

After I dropped $200 bucks on a DSi in Hong Kong, only to find that Nintendo started region locking their handhelds and that I could not play Pokemon on it, I decided that Nintendo is on my shit list until further notice.

3DS looks nice, but if they're region locking this too, they can kindly fuck off.

Apparently 3DS games will be locked, but old DS/DSi games will be good to go, from what I've read. Could be wrong, though.

I've never owned a handheld gaming system. History suggests it is unlikely I will be swayed.

My Pandora will arrive any month now...

The vast majority of my handheld gaming has been via iPhone apps. Carrying another device around just seems like it would be inconvenient at this point.

The only reason I'd want to upgrade from my DS Phat would be to play the new Shantae, but that doesn't seem like it justifies the expense. The only other DS game I've been interested in is Pokémon Black/White, and I think they'll play on any ol' DS.

I have never cared much for Nintendo's hand held gaming systems and will not be making the purchase. I think it is however a revolutionary device that will lead to more console perhaps like this.
