Best year of your life?

edited March 2011 in General
So, I was pondering about life the other day (I shan't say where I was pondering or what I was doing in that location, but if you're a man, you will know where the pondering took place and what I was doing at the time) and realised, 2009 was probably the best year of my life in terms of awesome shit that happened.

Here is a brief summary of what shit went down for me in 2009 in semi-rough chronological order:

Went to Calais where my friends and I were stuck in the freezing winter air at two in the morning and burnt any and all flammable items in our possession for warmth and resorted to spooning. We later stumbled upon a transgendered club where we were confronted by a loud, french, transgendered person with blue hair.

A friend and I accidentally stumbled upon a gay club in London, which looked perfectly normal on the outside, but inside was full of men who wanted me to undo my shirt. They also had a booklet on how to prevent AIDS, illustrated using ken dolls. According to this booklet, there is very little AIDS in your urine, so feel free to water sport all you want when you have AIDS.

In Cardiff, we... well, basically the exact same thing as the previous situation occurred. It seems we're just magnets for unassuming gay clubs.

In a gay club in London (Which is assuming enough that its name is actually GAY Heaven), a gay guy tried to catch my eye. I presumed he was going for my friend, so I ignored him. Turned out he was after me. When he'd left and I realised my mistake, I ended up getting a dance with a morbidly obese lesbian for sympathy.

(Okay, no more gay related stuff, methinks...)

Met my true love in a bottle of ketchup (The viscosity was fascinating) in a pub after a couple of friends and I went out back to do some recreational horticulture.

A police officer told me to put down a cone that I had stolen from a construction site. Fifty metres up the road, I found another and took it home. I then proceeded to hide under my bed in a fit of drunken paranoia that the police were going to come and get me for cone knicking. I still ensured I had plenty of Vodka, however.

Was almost murdered in Liverpool. This is because some friends and I went to a football pub, full of proper geeeeeezas. In this pub they have a digital jukebox. Now, there seemed to be an unwritten rule to not use this machine while the football was on TV, which it was. We ignored this, and put enough money in the machine for about 10 songs. And set everyone single one to the Noddy theme tune. After the third time, the natives were getting riled. Upon the forth, someone yelled "Who the fuck put this shit on?!" When it came on for the fifth time, all hell basically broke loose and the Landlord quickly unplugged the jukebox. We scarpered as a load of angry scousers were ripping us to pieces with their eyes.

I fellated a spatula.

Hospitalised due to psychotic episodes. This may not sound like a good thing, but I met some cool characters there. Indeed, one, named Malcolm, ended up teaching me some pretty raunchy jokes.

I dressed up like a goth for the first time, and apparently looked like the gayest goth this side of Camden.

And, of course, I met Vienna.

As such, 2009 was probably the best year of my life. What was yours and why?

That's really hard for me to settle on. I went to GDC in 2008 and had a good time and promptly entered into what would be about the best period my job would ever go through.

2006 was a year it seemed like I discovered a day had more than 24 hours in it. Between commuting, school, work, video games, internet, sleep, family, etc. I don't know how I did all the shit I did that year.

Most of what I have are scattered memories. I don't know if I could put one year above the rest.

It is a rather difficult question, isn't it?

For a long time I considered 2005 to be the best year of my life, but it all seems like a lie now, doesn't it? I have bittersweet memories of the first year I was dating Eric; if I'm a baby now, I was REALLY a baby then, lol. I was a 14 year old falling in love for the first time, and I definitely thought (even at the time) that it was going to remain the best year of my life.

Since everything else happened... eh. I've definitely had some fun and crazy years since getting to college... The end of 2008 (my first semester) was friggin NUTS. Last year had its ups and downs too, but I'm really happy with how my life is going right now. I don't think I'm old enough to have a 'best year ever' yet. Give me a couple of decades, I can get back to you on that question.

The best year of my life hasn't happened yet.

The best year of my life so far I have to ponder on. I'll do men stuff so I can ponder and will tell you what conclusion I come to.

Well 2006 and 2008 involved dogs dying and me fender-bendering my truck and other unlucky incidents, 2004 and 2005 had Advanced Placement US History, 2010 and 2011 have this evil internship, and 2009 just had really hard classes. So I guess 2007 wins best year ever.

Difficult to say really. There are two contenders for best years, and they're actually school years.

2003-2004 school year: This was my freshman year, and this was when I got to know some of my closest friends. Unfortunately, Andrew was there too, but you have to take the bad with the good. I had a girlfriend pretty early on, I had great friends to play video games and tabletop RPGs with, and it was overall just fantastic. Freshman year rocked. We formed an informal DDR club, and we attended tournaments around the northwest Indiana area. Friday night DDR parties were the norm in the dorms. I'm sure other people enjoyed their college weekends having sex, but DDR and tabletop RPG nights were very memorable.

2005-2006 school year: This was the year I spent abroad in Japan. I got to meet some new close friends here as well, but this time I had to deal with Adam. Bad with the good, again. I lived with an amazing host family that was nothing but warm and loving, and my Japanese skill skyrocketed from the combination of intense individual study and a big family to use it with. Tanya, Adam and I wandered Osaka's Den Den Town, we saw bears at a zoo having sex, and we rocked Fuji's face off. We also made Mongolian friends, which was weird. And cool.

For me the best year of my life was 2003-2004 school year cause that's when I met my BESTEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WORLD Ryan. We had such a jolly time that first year, pouting around and laughing away. You are the only light in my otherwise dismal life.
