Oh no, in much the same hot-headed way I shun the vacuous nature of organised religion, I too spurned the contemptuously vacuous nature of school sports. Whenever I couldn't skip PE and had to play, I never paid attention, I just stood back and avoided doing anything.
Thank you ver much. We won the tournament and are ready to plow through this season. We have a guy who is six foot, 300 pounds, squats 550 pounds. To say the least he is a tank. He scored 4 times today
Good god. Yeah, I'm with the club that doesn't quite appreciate sports, much for the same reasons. I played soccer all throughout elementary school and I always hated it and I was really really bad at it. In 4th grade I started playing the violin 1) because I thought it was fun, but 2) because it let me skip gym every week. I got away with this in middle school as well, and high school I ALMOST got away with it (The arts high school I went to originally was one of the only schools in Texas where you didn't have to take any P.E. credits to graduate), but someone forgot to fill out forms somewhere along the line and during my sophomore year they said I still had to take 2 gym courses.
So I took a bullshit dance class for one, a bullshit freebie course that everyone at the school was required to take (it was more meditation than any sort of physical labor), and one bullshit gym course I took at a community college over one summer.
Greg has always been REALLY into sports, and I really just cannot possibly relate to how much he likes the competition. I'm really just jealous; I tend to hate things I'm really bad at.
EDIT: Also, since my high school was a performing arts high school, we didn't have any school sports teams.
It just takes one 300lb tank to win a game, sometimes. By half-time, stories of the players put in hospital by Tank will have circulated, and the other team will no longer even try to tackle.
And fullback is an awesome position - you can see everything! Sarge must be a good tackler then. (I played fullback for most of a season, was pissed when they stuck me in Lock the next year.)
There used to be this crazy hitter on my brother's football team. In the first quarter of a game, he hit a kid so hard that he broke his back or neck or something and the other team immediately forfeit.
