Mars, you guys.

So, who watched the Mars rover drama unfold last night? I was kept awake by some stuff going down in my apartment, so I caught the news and got to see the images coming in. Pretty cool stuff!

Also, real life: Currently on Mars. New Total Recall: No Mars.

No wonder it got such bad reviews.

I didn't even remember anything about them putting a rover on mars and suddenly it's there and I'm like what? oh! Neat!

And so the day was suddenly just that much more awesome.

I finished watching New Total Recall about sixty seconds before Curiosity landed. We quickly gathered around the nearest iPhone and watched the broadcast from the NASA app right in the movie theater lobby. It really made the movie a lot better.

WE GOT OUR ASSES TO MARS

It was 1:30 in the afternoon, I was just wrapping up my lunch break. Streamed the whole thing, got goosebumps when the rover landed and everyone erupted in cheers.

Did we have rovers on Mars before? I thought we did. This is pretty cool, especially since I totally didn't remember there being a mission to mars in progress and suddenly "We landed on MARS!!!!!!" and I'm like" What? really? WHOA!" but I'm still like "But I thought they had already had a rover there?" Was there something more to this one than proving we are awesome enough to do it more than once?

There have been three other successful Mars rover missions. Sojourner and Spirit are currently offline but Opportunity is still alive and kicking.

Curiosity is still a big deal though: its nuclear-powered battery has a lifespan of about fourteen years, it's a much larger rover with lots of cool scientific instruments onboard, but most importantly, its main mission is to look for past or current evidence of life.

Finally, David Bowie will have his answer.

Oh man, you guys...I am totally bummed. Listen to this message I just got:

"Hey... Bunmuffin... It's Deli...lelia. They need me to go back up to Mars to help out that robot that got stuck in the sand. So I won't be able to go to the dance with you."

Ugh, that little robot got stuck in the sand agaiiin! Looks like I won't have a date for the dance.
