The undeath of 3APD.

edited April 2006 in Comics
I have taken my comicing destiny into my own hands and created a program that will allow me to do artwork for 3APD on my PDA. The sad thing was that I had to write my own code for it (because almost all graphics software for my PDA are currently just doodle programs that don't even support fuzzy edges, let alone layers, etc). Another sad thing is the only programming language I am remotely competant in is Java, which makes it slightly slow. The happy thing is I can use layers, air brush, color picking, different sized brushes, and zoom.

Having gotten the technical stuff out of the way, here is the first sample image:

This picture is still a little rough since I have to get used to drawing in this environment a little more.

What this means for the future of 3APD is there is now the possibility of me working on artwork for it whenever I get a spare moment wherever I am, which means comicing will once again be a possibility. One thing -- for sure the edges of my line art will not be as smooth as pen. I think I can make that part of the comicy style.

Don't get your hopes up too much, because this still means I need to develop my image bank first AND I have a few more improvements to my code that need to be made in order to make it faster and more usable.

    You've installed Linux!

You can tell that from my screenshot? O_o

It's QTopia, the same UI that my Zaurus ran when it was new (I've replaced the OS with other Linux variants quite a few times over the last couple of years.)

Aha!!! Well. This is a Zaurus SL5500. If you had a Zaurus, this was probably the one you had.

Actually, mine is a SL-C750. They both run the same OS, though.

I love mine. Now that it has a non-sucky graphics program, it has everything I could ever want.

Wow, them's some impressive coding skills. I eagerly await the return of the comic!

...So you wrote your own graphics program for your Linux-powered PDA to possibly draw pictures for a web comic in your spare time? Wow. That's like super-geeky. Your practically my hero now. :)

Well, it's not just a graphics program, it's a tree viewer (expand, collapse, expand, collapse, repeat) and note taker with picture editing. It's still pretty rough but since I wrote the code I can avoid the bugs. :)

I was using the tree part of the program to organize the story of 3APD, still believing I was going to finish it as a novelization, when I realized I really wanted to draw. So I wrote the graphics part.

    Yay for Heather!

This is so awesome that I'm coming out of my semi-lurking mode to say Yay! and I hope you get enough free moments to post some comics soon.

Attempt one at panel 1 of comic 80. I won't keep updating you on every little thing, but since this is the first work done on the actual comic in over a year, as opposed to just drawing the characters in pretty pictures, I thought everyone would enjoy the moment.
