Meet the new forum / Same as the old forum

edited July 18 in Forum Support
Site's back online! Again, sorry about the unplanned outage. Dreamhost updated PHP and our poor little 8-year-old vBulletin install couldn't handle change. So here we are!

You may recall us testing Vanilla as a possible replacement. The reasons were:

- more modern software
- free

With that comes some limitations. Animated GIFs are no longer supported as avatars, and some functionality we consider essential needs to be added as plugins. I'll try to work on that this weekend, but for now let me know if anything is outright broken and I'll check it out.

But for now, welcome to The Orange Belt 3.0! ...beta 1...

    :o

    And apparently it doesn't like even nonmoving gifs! I have to redo my avatar! Noooo!
  • Yeah, despite our best efforts it looks like a few attachments didn't make it over. Hopefully replacing them won't be too hassletastic.
  • Yeah, it apparently didn't like my Ceres avatar either and I thought that was a png, but whatevs. Easy enough to change. It's not like looking back at my old threads and realizing theyfightcrime.org is gone. That made me sad.
  • Hello new world.
  • Is there a way we can make the Orange Belt... I dunno... less white? It's a bit bland.
  • I really need a "mark all as read" button.
  • I'm sure the old Sandalwood theme will make a come back at some point. It's maybe a little further down on the list than reimplementing basic functionalities.

    Not entirely what you're looking for, but if you go to the Categories view, then hover over any categories with unread messages, click gear icon > Mark Read. Repeat for other categories and you're done. Not quite as easy as "wait until the forum decides you've probably read posts", but hopefully a little less likely to clear out your to-read queue before you're done (as it often did for me).

    And yes, colors are definitely on the list of things to look into.
  • That's exactly what I was looking for! They hid it well.

    Though hopefully this forum software is better at knowing I've read things than the old one, and I won't need to use it that often.
  • Whoooa.So this is what the future looks like.
  • Got bored waiting on themes, building my own locally-applied themes. Getting a plugin to save css data to apply to sites locally is nice.
  • wut jakey posted? I missed jakey mac jaklestein! ;n;
  • I looked at this forum from a different computer the other day and was surprised by it looking all different. I had forgotten about that css plugin I was using to apply this:
    a:hover, a.TextColor:hover, a:hover .TextColor {color: #f90;} a {color: #d70;} #Head {background: #e90;} body {background-color: #ffe; color: #653;} .Item.Read {background: #eed; opacity: 0.75;} .Discussions {border: 1px solid #cb9;} .DataList .Item, .NarrowList .Item { border-bottom: 1px solid #cb9; border-left: 0px solid #cb9; border-right: 0px solid #cb9; border-top: 0px solid #cb9; } .ItemDiscussion .Meta, .DataList .Meta {color: #986;} .Tag, .Count {background: #986;} h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {color: #653;} .Pager .Highlight {color: #653;} .ItemDiscussion {background-color: #ffd; border: 1px solid #cb9;} textarea {background: #fffff3;} textarea:focus {background: #fff;}

    The site needed to be a little more orange and I kinda got used to it being a bit more orange.
  • Agreed, some orange-ification would be nice. Consider it on my to do list.
