Grad students don't rise. They only sink further.

...into debt. It's not even falling slightly behind those who have moved onto careers. It's continuing to move backwards while they move forwards.

Well I'm not that happy with it, but it's the best I can do on such little sleep.

You talking about the weather here in not-so-sunny California, or just the general suckiness of October 2?

The sudden halt of our Indian summer, combined with my first respiratory infection in a while just had me down for a bit.

Have you applied for any positions at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View yet? It just seems like the most logical place for you to work out here.

My former advisor's hired me to help manage the IC lab at SJSU. It's only part-time, but I love being back down there in that environment again. :)

Heh, I stopped looking for a job when I decided to give the PhD thing a try. I'm back at school now. Re. the halt of the Indian summer, I really really like the brand new cool weather. I hear it'll rain today, but it's been all sun so far.

Amoeba Boy, I like the remix too, but I must admit I don't know many engineers into Boy Meets World. ^__^ I sort of like the notion that whatever Topenga's up to today is much more interesting than righting wrongs. I feel that way about Law and Order. Except for the episodes with Detective Twitchy.

When deciding which mildly-popular, cliche-filled early 90's family sitcom to use in the punchline, the choices were Boy Meets World or Full House. The coin came up heads.

Boy Meets World was the better choice of the two, I think. Thank you, coin.

I liked Boy Meets World, then they went to college, and the show went downhill.

At least in my opinion, maybe it's because I wasn't in college, and couldnt identify with them.

or the fact that they had crappier and crappier excuses to keep feeny in the show.

Speaking of keeping characters in shows, I was watching this YouTube video which was basically all the Power Rangers theme songs in order. Now, I only watched the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but I thought it was interesting to see that Bulk and Skull (the school bullies) stayed on through the fourth season. What's REALLY interesting, however, was that the fourth season was Power Rangers in Space. (And those guys looked like they were about forty by this time)

Yes, now that you mention it. How did they manage to get Bulk and Skull in space?

Bulk and Skull were awesome. I had hoped desperately that Bulk and Skull action figures would be released, so I could use them to terrorize my brother's Power Rangers action figures.

Hey. Just hey. I grew up with 3 older sisters terrorizing my fun! That's just plain mean. (even if it's hilariously genius)
  • edited October 2006
Oh, come on. What real terrorizing could Bulk and Skull figures do? It would pretty much be like they'd go up to the Power Rangers, talk some talk, and then slip on something and spill milkshakes on themselves.

"Just plain mean" is like when you're babysitting your brother and he's being a punk, so you quietly set all of the clocks in the house ahead. Then you say, "OH MY GOD IT'S LIKE TEN YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE IN BED HOURS AGO! MOM AND DAD WILL BE HOME ANY MINUTE YOU BETTER GET TO BED SO YOU DON"T GET IN TROUBLE!"

    Ooh, somebody's good at this.

Yeesh, I'm glad you weren't my sister. My sisters were never clever enough to do anything too harsh. But, then I think I've been dubbed "the smart one" in my family. I wasn't apt to fall for stuff. The clock thing would never have worked on me.

Let's see...My sister (the oldest) managed to direct my brother into and through a class door, she put a dent in the metal mess of a speaker with my head, she caused my other brother to trip and splithis toe open (the bone weas sticking out, it was rather interesting). hmmmm...I'm sure there's more, but I'm just blocking the rest for now. Maybe it'll resurface later.

That's why I've worn a wristwatch since I was in single digits.
  • edited October 2006
I wore a watch for like a month. Then a leap year happened and my time got messed up. (Well it would really only be messed up for two days out of the year, but it just annoyed me is all) It didn't come with directions, and I can't figure out a way to fix it. So it sits in a drawer somewhere at my house.

They should make Linux for watches.
  • edited October 2006
    What about a wind-up watch?
  • edited October 2006
    NetBSD, then.
  • edited October 2006
That's a watch for Linux. I'm waiting for someone to figure out a way to install Linux on a regular watch.

Besides, they don't actually sell those. It's just a proof of concept thingy.
