DDR Supernova

edited June 2009 in Games
Any hardcore DDR players out there in these forums, or am I the only one?

I picked up DDR Supernova for PS2 the other day, and it is amazing. My only real complaint is a few crappy songs here and there, and the annoyingly large perfect window, but aside from that it's great.

My roommate and I have been playing on Stellar Mode for a while unlocking stuff. We've unlocked everything but Fascination Eternal Love Mix.

Edit: (I had some songs listed here as my favorites, but hvalco mentioned they could be spoilers, so I erased them)

Anyone out there have any idea what I'm talking about?

    I do! I do!

Geez, way to give away the spoilers!

I can't get it yet. My mom's getting it for my birthday on October 18th, and I'll be home from college this weekend (if I'm lucky and she's already bought it), otherwise I have to wait until freakin' Thanksgiving.

I can't wait to make an edit of Flow, because that song needs gallops, badly, and CSFIL Super Euro just has awful steps. Ska Ska No. 3 looks really fun, if it did make the home version. And, Video Killed the Radio Star is just an awesome song.

There's plenty of stuff in the that I didn't mention. Besides, those songs I mentioned all show up really fast anyway.

Flow is an amazing song, but the steps are kinda dull.

I used to play DDR, I've been trying to get back into it, but I've been playing Guitar Hero a lot.
  • edited October 2006
I play. I played for a couple years then stopped (important things to do...DDR got in the way) and then I started getting back into it a couple months back, but I blew out my knee and I now have trouble getting through a set or so. I used to be pretty decent. I could just about AA LOM when I quit, but when I got back it was all mid B's and Low A's.

As far as DDR for the PS2 and *shudder* the X-box, I don't fancy them. Konamix was fun, but Extreme was a bit...well...lack luster, There were few good songs, and the rest was crap. I'll see if I can pick up Supernova for my birthday or something (Oct. 12) I was lucky enough to make it through a tourney to get a Cobalt somewhat recently, so it'll be fun if my knee holds out.

    Edit-
Does Supernova have the Sincing problem like the machines? If so can you get the installation to sinc it?
  • edited October 2006
The machines got patched, and I'm pretty sure the game's on-sync.
  • edited October 2006
The game is synchronized quite well. As I mentioned before, there is a larger perfect window, meaning it's easier to get perfects. But that's just for the console version; I haven't had a chance to play on a Supernova machine yet.

These newer hard songs should keep me occupied for a while. I've needed new songs to beat for a while now.

Fluxes are awesome, by the way. I've got one myself. Where did you have a tourney with a Flux in it? None of the tourneys near me have them. I've always won crappy gift certificates to the arcade.

Anyone out there use the bar, speed mods, or flatfoot?
  • edited October 2006
I don't use the bar, or speed mods, or solo. I just kinda... play. Also, I like soft pads better than hard pads. A lot of people here at my college have hard pads and they kinda... aren't great. I yearn for my two Konami softpads in my basement. (They really don't slide around too much if you duct tape them together. It also helps in doubles mode) Everybody says Konami pads fall apart real fast, but my two year old pad from Extreme still works great. (Would be better if my dog didn't chew it)

REVIVING A DEAD AND FORGOTTEN THREAD!!!!

So, I was on Gamefaqs for a little while this morning. I was looking at upcoming game releases, and I wondered if PS2 had any new releases, or if they had any new games that were not multiplatform movie or Madden games.

And lo and behold, SUPERNOVA 2 is slated for release on September 25th. That's tomorrow!

    Anyone else suddenly excited?

Edit: The Wii version, DDR Hottest Party, is also being released tomorrow. I'm not sure how similar the song lists are. But I am pretty damn sure my cobalt flux won't plug into the Wii very nicely, so I will probably get the PS2 version.

Like last year, I'll probably get Supernova 2 for my birthday next month. I was really disappointed with Supernova (I think I was the only one), but this year's release looks like it'll be better.

I'll definitely get Hottest Party for Wii... when I get a Wii. My Mario Mix pad will work with it, so when I buy the one with the included pad, I'll be able to play doubles right away! The Wii version looks like it'll have good songs, even though I've heard there's only 50-ish. Plus they kept the awesome gimmick steps from Mario Mix. I loved those, they really changed up the gameplay.

Pff... Cobalt Flux? Cool people use Konami soft pads.

I finally tried DDR a month ago, and since I wasn't horrible at it, I may be gettting this.

Edit: Any suggestions on what kind of pad is good, without being really expensive?
  • edited September 2007
Supernova 2 is okay. The perfect window is ridiculously huge again, allowing any retard to get a nice long string of perfects and marvelouses. But, it seems to have a few fun songs.

I'm not very far yet, but hopefully there will be more fun songs.

god, get a red octane foam pad. They're good without being too expensive. They'll hold you over until you get up to the upper levels of heavy play.

I got Supernova 2 today. It's a massive improvement over Supernova, but then again, like I've said many times before, I didn't like Supernova.

Take on Me's steps/video are amazing, likewise for Rockafella Skank. Justin Timberlake stunk (why'd you have to make him seem good, Mario?! You set me up for disappointment!). The only repeat in the entire game is a weird choice (we just saw it in Supernova) that I'll likely never play.

The new Hyper Master mode is better than Supernova's Stellar Master Mode AND Extreme 2's Dance Master Mode.

The presence of e-motion and CRASH! make me very happy because they're songs most other people don't like that I can use for annoyance purposes.

Whoever wrote the song info in Information mode doesn't know the difference between 'its' and 'it's', and demonstrated this about twenty times.

I've never gone into information mode. I'm sure that would drive me crazy.

The boss mode for J is really fun. It's just that song on heavy, NGO or something, I can't tell what it is. You have the Oni mode bar, but it looks like you get to miss three or four steps or so before you lose a bar.

I failed it yesterday out of fatigue from playing for a few hours beforehand, but maybe I'll do better tonight.
  • edited September 2007
In NGO you have fifteen chances on the bettery bar, but Goods don't remove anything. I passed it on my first try with one bar left. :| That end stream was crazy. It's a good thing I can do high speed double-stepping, because crossovers at that pace are super-tiring.

I've beaten every A-J mission except J-01... The doubles/singles setup is crazy. I'd do better on real doubles.

    SPOILERS?:
Unlike the lower levels where you beat the boss stage to move on to the next letter, areas K and L are hidden, and you have to beat every single lower-level mission to unlock them (darn you Strict Machine!!!), and they're where the really hard songs are kept.

    END SPOILERS...

Also, I'm pretty sure Unreal has the worst stepchart ever, on both Heavy and Standard. Haven't tried Light yet, but it's pretty hard to mess up a Light chart.

So, the rumor is that this year's DDR game, simply titled "Dance Dance Revolution: Volume #1", will be a 'greatest hits'-type compilation from all the old games. This is awesome news, since most of the stuff they've been giving us for the last three years has been pretty crappy in my opinion. It also might be our one chance to see crazy-obscure old songs like ska a go go and Jam Jam Reggae in a US release.

It also appears as if it'll be the first ever cross-platform DDR game. Gamestop has it listed for Xbox360, Wii, PS2, and for the first time, PS3.

Update: There will be a song by Rick Astley on the new DDR.

    Which song? (with fingers crossed)
  • edited June 2009
We don't know yet, but the album art they showed just happened to be the debut album of 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.
  • edited June 2009
That can't be good. It would be cool if they had the song barbie girl on DDR.
