MTG: Planar Chaos Pre-release

edited January 2007 in Games
So, here's where I remind people that other games exist, and that I occasionally play them.

Tomorrow is the prerelease for the latest Magic:The Gathering set, and I was wondering if anyone was going. In case you didn't know, they host these events pretty much anywhere you can think of.
Errata: The prerelease is this weekend, but all events near me are tomorrow. Some events near you may be on Sunday.
Check out this page to find out more info if you're interested. Flights should be going on all day, so you can still catch one if you wake up at noon. Trust me, I should know.

So yes, we shall talk about our Planar Chaos gripeshurrahs soon. Or rather, this thread will die a quick but cold, shivering death.

Also, I made up the word "gripeshurrah" just now. It is both a complaint and a praise of a thing. Learn it, and ink it into your dictionary.

    I can't afford Magic anymore...

    NEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDD!

How does one go about pronouncing "Gripeshurrah"?
  • edited January 2007
Wait, they kept making Magic expansion sets after Ice Age? Man, I've got some catching up to do.

Sorry, the only thing I've got are Pokemon cards.

And baseball cards, but those aren't really a game, unless you get real creative-like.

Dude, we gotta play Pokémon cards some time. My Grass/Normal deck kicks all kinds of ass. Every single kind.

    C-c-c-c-c-combo topic!

    How punny.

I think there may be pokemon cards somewhere in my domicile, perhaps we could play at Connecticon this year?

If I can afford going to a convention outside California this year, you're on!

My deck rules, even though my record is only one win, one loss. (On the loss, my friend managed to pull his Charizard, so of course I was doomed) But come one, double colorless energy destroys all.

problem with pokemon cards: there is nobody to play with.
i used to play with a co-worker but he was fired for stealing paper.

Seeing as how I've been consistantly employed since June of last year, I might actually be able to afford going to conventions this time around.

My psychic/normal deck was pretty awesome back when Pokemon was popular. I think I still have it somewhere.

No one plays Pokemon. At all. It's all been in your head.

Anyway, I ended up wasting about 5 hours before my flight started yesterday, and the sealed deck I got was terrible. Therefore, I got reamed.

Good news, though. I destroyed ass in draft. I just wih I had dropped the sealed flight, and played draft all day. I'd probably have come home with many more packs.

I have a truckload of rare pokemon cards I keep in a binder. My rarest card is a 36-stared Pichu. I used to collect the rare ones. I have the legendary birds, the legendary dogs, Ho-oh...Lugia...AND ALL OF THEM ARE FROM BOOSTER PACKS! Yeah. But have fun at your pre-release.

Pfff, you kids and your Gold, Silver and beyond Pokemon.

I'm pretty sure my most valuable (and most effective) is a First Edition, Holographic Kangaskhan. I don't know what it is with newer cards, they seem to be a lot stronger than the old ones. I buy a pack every once in a while when I'm bored, and I don't know what they're doing over there. One pack had three DIFFERENT cards of the same fish-thing in it.

    <.< ... >.>

(Mario is actually Dexter and implicitly a huge magic nerd.)

...It's true. I learned from Magic that raccoons are attracted to bright shiny objects, which is why they steal hubcaps.

Nice treatment of my Magic thread, guys.

    Also: Mario.... huh?

I currently own two, count 'em, TWO Magic cards. Found 'em on the floor in middle school.

It was like, Wall of Corpses and Binding Pain, I think.
  • edited January 2007
Wall of Corpses is seriously a scary card.

Also, I play M:TG. That is, I WOULD if I knew people around here who played. It would be strange for me to just walk into my office and start asking around. Although, once I finally get my finances in order and purchase a car, I suppose I'd be up for scouting out local hobby shops where they hold tournaments. I got some booster packs back when I was in Mississippi. Ravnica is what you'd call the theme? I suppose? Or, like, edition? Yes, the edition. The White/Green cards, particularly, I loved, since I could spam making little 1/1 saplings and then I had a few cards that added +x/+x to ALL my creatures, where x was anywhere from, like, 1 to 4. Actually, I think there was one or two I had that actually WERE +x/+x, where x equals amount of mana tapped. It was, very awesomely, awesome.

Now I have this Magic:The Boner going on.

I'm in Boy Scouts, and my SPL sometimes brings magic: the gathering cards.

Also I have a small deck of Pokemon cards with insanely cool creatures.
  • edited January 2007
    What's an SPL?
  • edited January 2007
In Boy Scouts, an SPL is a senior patrol leader.

Ravnica is the name of a set, and as the first set in its block, it is also the name of the block featuring Ravnica, Guildpact, and Dissension. The block as a whole had a multicolored theme, and much fun was had by all.

The current block is the Timespiral block, which features Timespiral and Planar Chaos, as well as Future Sight when that set comes out in mid-summer. It's overriding theme is the revisitation and reimagining of older cards and mehanics. The block has been very fun as well.

John, you should find some way to get out to a shop for Friday Night Magic (errata: not always held on Fridays... it depends on the venue you're going to), and play in drafts. They're fairly difficult, but much more fun just putting a deck together from your collection.

Final Also: thanks for making a Pokemon thread, so you guys can talk about that crap over there.

I'll definitely look into that, and thank you for the information.
