Interactive Fiction and Text Games
Anyone enjoy playing them?
I just downloaded a few today and they are pretty good. I've started playing this one called "Anchorhead" so far it's very similar to *The Shadow over Innsmouth
So feel free to discuss/reccomend any favorites it you are so inclined.
*I am not sure weather it is "A Shadow...", "The Shadow...", or just "Shadow Over...". I could look it up but I am far too lazy.

I don't know if I've played any truly interactive fiction games before, but I think that the idea behind them is wonderful. Interactivity is the unique thing about video games and if they're going to be appreciated as an art form the interactivity is going to have to be increased. I love the Legacy of Kain games, but they're basically movies with some gameplay interwoven.
Could you send me a link or something where I could download Anchorhead?
Mine is an actual game, like H2G2 was Plus it'll be for OS X and Windows
Quick plot: Aliens take over the world. Through a series of inane yet humourous events, you are the only one who can stop them. And remember: Your inventory is more significant than you think!
It is here with some other ones, but you'll have to get a Z-code player dealie in order to play it which you'll probably be able to find just by Googling.
I did, however, make my own IF game for my old Casio FX-795P when I was a kid. The parser was kind of rudimentary (commands were just one word rather than a short phrase like most IF games) but it was still somewhat cool. I don't have a copy of it any more, though. I had a tape drive for the thing for a while, but it was never very reliable and I don't know if I ever backed that particular game up. Don't have any of my old tapes now anyway.
9:05 is a good game to start out with if you're a beginner. It's very short, but interesting.
I really enjoyed playing Pytho's Mask. It's more of a swashbuckling type of game. You have to ask alot of questions, but the enviroment makes it seem like the characters are alive and active.
Galatea is interesting in that you ask questions to one character. Depending on your questions, the npc will act differently if you are sensitive or hostile, heh.
I can't remember what program you need to download for the two above games, but I suppose the website has links and such to what you need.
I so need to try more of these when I get the time.
