New Star Ocean in the making!!

The gods have been generous! Square Enix is underway with a NEW Star Ocean game! More will be announced at the Square-Enix party on May 12th.
RPG powerhouse Square Enix is to reveal a new title in its Star Ocean series, claims the latest issue of Japanese Famitsu.

According to a mag the new instalment - which is not specified for any particular platform - is to be officially unveiled at the Square Enix Party 2007 event next month.

The series last PS2 instalment, Till the End of Time sent the legions of Japanese fans barmy, updating on the SNES original with a real-time combat system and 80 stat-counting hours of touted gameplay. This new instalment will no-doubt reach similar levels of fan hysteria.

The Square Enix bash is set to go down on May 12 - we'll have our eyes locked for any announcements and let you know what happens.

I confirmed it on Famitsu. I can't wait to hear more! I'm a huge Star Ocean fan, and I'm hoping other people on the boards are too.

One of my friends put in their copy of the PS2 one and he had logged over 250 hours in the save.

    My god.

Worst I've ever heard of is 850 hours with Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. But 250 is still crazy, I've only come close to that with Pokemon FireRed. I hope the new Star Ocean game is good. And I hope it's for Wii.. But it probably won't be.

Wow, and I thought my 50 hours on Dragon Quest 8 was bad (still haven't finished it, though, so that number might increase.)

Yeah, SO3 can really rack in the hours. With each character possessing fully customizable weapons and tons of battle skills that improve with proficiency, different people will find themselves playing for well over a hundred hours. Plus, the SO series likes to give the player too many choices for party members, meaning that players have to play multiple times to experience every character.

Furthermore, while the main ending is the same, there are different character endings based on how you interact with the other characters and how you choose to respond to them. The main character, Fayt, can find himself wandering by himself at the end of the game or forming a close bond with one other character from the game.

Oh, and the level cap is 255 for obsessive compulsive levelers like me. Of course, Disgaea is 9999, but SO3 casually breaks the 9999 damage and HP limit!
