No matter how many times I watch this movie, I am horribly disturbed when what's-her-name gets squished by Tetsuo as he's transforming.

Was her name Kaori? The women play such minor roles in this movie that I often forget their names. That scene creeps me out too, but not nearly as much as the doll scene. The creepy music really makes that scene for me, and I'm so glad I own a copy of this movie's soundtrack.

The ending is still somewhat confusing for me. I'm assuming that Tetsuo transcended into some higher non-corporeal form, and the allusions made to his powers being a part of all humans suggests that this is the next stage of human evolution, but that doesn't really explain what happened to the Old Kids.

For being a bumbling goofy kid, Kaneda sure is good at surviving. He jumpkicks and blasts his way through the entire movie, even dodging satellite-based lasers and falling buildings!

I'm glad we got together to watch this one. It's always fun to collectively discuss how screwed-up a particular scene was. And now for some forum-related assistance: where was the "fack you" graffiti in the movie? I remember seeing it before, but didn't ever catch it in this screening. That part always cracks me up.

Fantastic movie. I really should find the last two issues of the comic and read it.

    I liked Kaneda's bike.

His motorcycle was a miracle of engineering.

I saw this movie several years ago when I was fairly sleep deprived, but I remember it making very little sense. Though I just found a cheap, hole in the wall video store with a huge selection so hopefully I can start discussing these movies more.

Mario, it doesn't matter what happened to the Old Kids. One of them had a hover chair. Everything is going to be ok if you have a hover chair. It's one of the indisputable facts of life.

I think one of the best parts would have been after Tetsuo loses his arm to laser fire and just rebuilds one out of scrap. Especially when he really starts to lose control of his power and it starts digging into the arm-rest when he's sitting down.

Although the greatest scene is definitely the bike race/brawl at the start. That was stylish as hell.

I think it was on the door of the bar.

Cool, I'll have to go back and check that out.

Friendly reminder: everybody go find a copy of "Attack The Gas Station!" (Amazon) (Netflix) for next week. I hear it involves kids attacking a gas station, so it should be pretty damned awesome.
