SCIENCE! Week '07! Terminator trilogy is go!

edited July 2007 in Movies and Shows
Sorry we've missed the last few SCIENCE! movies. I'm sure we can get a few people to tune into this one though, as in honor of the second annual SCIENCE! Week, we're watching the Terminator trilogy!

By the way, the third one isn't as bad as it could have been! The TV show will probably blow chunks though.

The thing with the Terminator series is that neither of the original two movies really required a sequel, so if you don't like the third movie (which I'd agree is pretty good, though not up to the level of the originals) or the TV series it doesn't really matter, since you can easily ignore them anyway. It's not like those series that leave a million plot threads unresolved in the first two films so that the third one can completely ruin everything forever (i.e. X-Men, Spider-Man.)

I wish they'd make more self-contained movies. Why does everything have to be a trilogy these days?

While Judgement Day wasn't strictly necessary to enjoy the sufficiently self-contained first film, it did a fine job enriching the story, and was definitely a worthy successor (and my favorite of the two by far). The same basic thing happened with Rise of the Machines, though I couldn't help but nitpick at all sorts of little things (it was lame that Sarah Connor was dead, I didn't like John Connor's actor replacement, Claire Danes was kind of annoying, a female Terminator is plain-and-simple shark-jumping, and so on). Still, the third film was a perfectly watchable action flick.

I've heard a new company bought the rights to the series, and is working on a fourth film. Besides them depicting the war against the machines, I can't see how it's gonna be worth watching.
