  • Sounds like fun, confusing bathroom aside.
  • Honest opinions: Case is not to my tastes in the looks department, but it's a reasonable steel case. I'd question if the fans in it might be a bit noisy, but I don't know how much noise bothers you. If you like the looks, no worries. It'll get the job done. Motherboard is cheap, and if you're doing a self build on AMD…
  • My parent's home is not an internetless wasteland. It's a good thing.
  • Ok, so it looks like your going for a more typical big tower. The lack of power supply is fine, it just means you'll have to get your own and that means you can make sure it's not a cruddy one. I usually figure on ordering parts all at once, so I guess you could get that along with everything else. I'd just say that after…
  • Honestly I don't really know the speed difference. I have an SSD of moderate quality and that's what I put Windows 7 on. I don't know how long it takes to boot on a normal hard drive. I do know that despite time lost to having to select an OS and having to log in I could go from a totally off computer to loading a web page…
  • For the record I'll still mostly be using Vista since a couple games I rather like playing aren't compatible with Windows 7. But I can legitimately use Windows 7 otherwise if I wish.
  • It may be a small matter, but I got my copy of Windows 7 working despite not having my disk. I am pleased. Also I have a lot of updates and setup to work on now.
  • USB drives certainly use flash memory and are technically solid state disks, but they are very much not the same thing as what I'm talking about. They are built to be cheap. USB 2.0 doesn't allow for much speed, and the little drives don't leave room for proper controller or cache chips. Proper SSD's of today use…
  • Crayons are a grand symbol of childhood. One can hardly look at a gift with crayon drawings on it and not feel a touch of that old child-like glee upon receipt.
  • I see. Well, I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but I know at least one other person looking to build a computer fairly soon. In that other case my advice has been to wait for the new Intel processors. They have graphics integrated into the processor that should be competitive with current bottom-level discrete…
  • It was cloudy and snowing here. Sort of a problem with such things.
  • What if a village's most famous local product was slaves? It might be offensive but what would we accomplish if we could even stand to talk about it? This is just people being outright intolerant.
  • Current graphics card market is such that a Geforce GTX 460 from nVidia or a Radeon 6850/6870 from AMD would get the job done very well. AMD and nVidia don't actually make the cards though so you have to choose carefully from the various card-makers' products. I usually just look for something that seems like it'd have a…
  • Well, that sure trumps my back issues. Mine were minor and although the chiropractor was worse than useless (made it worse), a new bed seems to have mostly solved the issue for me. Also, I'm not sure if I should pity you or your sister more on that last bit.
  • Drugs are bad, mmmkay? (funny though)
  • Awesome, yet if it does that all the time it could get annoying. I also freely admit I watched the ninja turtles video again after watching the parrot.
  • Fiberglass? I'm not sure that it's actually fiberglass. Fabric yes. And well it hasn't really been a problem before this with the snow, so whatever. The damage isn't that horrible as far as I know. Mostly just gotta fix/replace some fabric panels and reinflate the place or some such thing. Easier said than done I suppose.…
  • I have found that strange dreams hit me much more reliably when I wake up at a more normal hour, and then go back to sleep for a couple more hours. Late morning dreams are common and also pretty weird.
  • But they are still alright. I guess.
  • It occurs to me that although it is an unimportant event to me personally my sister had tickets to what was supposed to be a Vikings game yesterday. Well... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_uscBJn0p0 For her sake at least this seems the appropriate thread.
  • I don't see how that diminishes the hackery. It just sounds more impressive if it took a while.
  • Well a chiropractor wasn't a very good solution. Saw one earlier this week and he did almost nothing and again on Friday and he made my back worse. Had a nasty time trying to sleep that night and maybe totaled about 3 hours of sleep. Running tired resulted in accidentally trashing a game save and foolishly eating some old…
  • Seems like it would make more sense to do the crash and burn after the finals, but I wasn't into the whole crash and burn thing, so I don't really know how that works.
  • Christmas in Final Fantasy I? I am actually an unusually large fan of FF1. I may be late to the party as I'm a huge slacker and sleep in almost till the crack of noon given the chance but may make some attempt to be there...assuming someone doesn't interrupt me right off and prevent me from getting to it. Which is quite…
  • This is a masterpiece.
  • Arg! I don't have neat pictures. I am ashamed. Happy Birthdays all around.
  • Let's see... Detective December? Maybe a little bland. Doppleganger December? Have we done something like that before? Disguise December? Something like having someone post an original avatar and have people make altered versions of it?
  • Not a bad deal. Processor is not all that high end, but is a quad core and as such not low end either. Plenty for most gaming situations and ample for anything less demanding. Probably just not ideal for large amounts of 3D rendering or video encoding and such, but few people actually do enough of that to really The…
  • Just move your hand a little closer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0_nuvPKIi8
  • I had to look the name up. Then I realized who it was and why I recognized that name. That's when the sad part hit me.
