Take my advice with a grain of salt, but I'll echo what pretty much everyone above says... For hosting, DrunkDuck works. (I'd say also keep an eye on the ComicSpace + Webcomics Nation merger, too.) Getting your own domain and paid hosting, however, shows a certain level of commitment, and also gives you a freedom to make…

Next year, may I recommend volunteering as a Conference Associate? It's the equivalent of the $1700 pass, in exchange for 20 hours of work over the five days. (Many times, your work is making sure the sessions run smoothly, so you're shaking hands with famous peoples, too.) It's a tremendously awesome deal.

If you haven't already gotten it (sorry, just popped back into this thread for a sec), it's array_reverse(). Just replace the lineif (isset($latest)) ksort($latest); withif (isset($latest)) { ksort($latest); array_reverse($latest);} and you should be good.

Argh. Yes, I'll do what I can to fix that, but it may have to be later this week. Too much other work on my plate (that puts food on the table) right now. Might be able to fix on Mario's side with some CSS declarations... i.e., a css reset on the image tags, then a redeclaration of the desired alignment on the .ob_img…

Mario, thanks again for the patience. (After a few more revisions of code, it turned out Mario had to upgrade the server from PHP4 to PHP5 to prevent some bizarro errors from being thrown, so The OB is now on PHP5. Huzzah.) (Hamelin, I still haven't forgotten about phpoetry, I swear. Just been super-mega-busy, and it's a…

Wow, I think I just got a Chuck-Norris-ism. Mario, thanks for the heads up on the glitch...my bad for being lazy. (It's actually something that should be solvable with regular expressions. Is it possible that these feeds will have images in them that are in<[[[!CDATA blocks, or images that aren't wrapped in anchor (link)…

I second that "glad you figured it out," bro. (http://snook.ca/archives/html_and_css/six_keys_to_understanding_css_layouts/ was the link I told you I'd e-mail but didn't, not that it helps much at this point. And yes, there are big-time known bugs with regard to position: relative; in IE6.) Also, two of the best articles…

Nope, I meant http://www.w3schools.com/css, but it seems I accidentally added an extra "o" in my excitement. w3schools isn't the spec, just a site with good tutorials for the novice. Yep, W3C is the site for the specs for CSS, HTML, and the like. ECMA supposedly holds the specs for JavaScript, although, frankly, Mozilla's…

Lang, I just got a middle-of-the-line MacBook myself, and they are nothing short of awesome. (As fast, if not faster for most things, as my dual processor G5 desktop. Yay, technology!) I've heard good things about VMWare Fusion + Unity as an alternative to Parallels. Also:…

Congrats, JC!. Rock rock on.

It's not out in SLC yet. Dang. Ironically, the city that hosts the indie Sundance fest is always late to get the new indie films. Paprika just came out here this week (I'll see it later today), but I've been specifically avoiding the previews of Sunshine because it looked so good....

I used a brushpen this time. http://huah.livejournal.com/4460.html (Sorry, it's been a craaaazy week. First week back from vacation, first week realizing exactly how explodey things could get at work in the next month, and the week that one of my ol' grad school friends is moving back to Boston, and she needed lots of help…

I couldn't tell that it was an Orange-branded iBook! Uh, everything that Mario said.
-
Actually, Mario, this is probably a craaaazy idea, since I have zero time available, and it would only distract from Juuuuuuuune drawing, but I've been wondering if OBers might like a learn-how-to-program tutorial or code clinic forum. Not to profess being an 31337 programming super-h4xx0r, 'cause I ain't. But I still have…

You do awesome sprite designs, Mario. Quite awesome.
-
Thanks, Mario (and also Stef before you). Does this mean that I should force myself to do non-crosshatchy things? Perhaps next week should be all vector doodles. If I do doodle, as I'll be on vaaaacaaaaatiooooon. <grin> sleepytime = now();

It looks good, even if it's not what you wanted. Don't be a-feared o' the brush, Stef! THE BRUSHINESS IS IN YOU.

Sketch I'd forgotten I did on Saturday, meaning I've only missed the 1st of the month: ...and the 10, er 13-minute sketch tonight, which always takes 30 minutes when you factor in scanning and posting, heh: Whoo! Hooray for drawrin'! Thanks for the peer pressure!!

I should be working on my online portfolio or resume so that I can actually sleep rather than grinding my teeth through my work-induced-insomnia </angst>, but instead I'm trying to finish one thing that I keep putting off: condolence cards for the three funerals last month. I realize that the proportions are a bit off…

Mario, I think it's fair to say your entry puts all the other DeeDee entries to shame. Yay, insomnia. I agree with y'all on June, but I have a feeling that at this rate (with the craziness at work), July might be better. :( But ...why not?

* Primer, which is a GREAT garage-inventor-sci-fi-intrigue film and quite SCIENCE!y. * The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., at least the pilot, for a taste of cowboys and aliens, a particularly unique cast of villains, and Bruce Campbell. * The Fountain, now out on DVD, which is a quite-artistic psychadelic headtrip:…

Without 'e': May I say this list might assist in using odd glyphs from locations not at that spot of history and cartography around which you find you stay. It is, without doubt, a trial to omit that fifth non-uncial and to scrawl out a paragraph without sounding all haughty-taughty, by golly. Nope, no 'e' here. (Unless…

Sorry, dudes and dudettes. I am totally suffering the MAYlaise. Although I did make something on Wednesday night (into Thursday morning). My Mom talks every so often about wanting to get into amateur stargazing, so I made her this Mother's Day card with the help of custom sky charts from http://www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky/…
-
You should DEFINITELY make this, Mario. DO IT.
-
This wouldn't be terribly difficult. Would you like to learn? :) I'll PM you about it.

May 1. Sick. Cop-out by using the sketch-from-the-archives cheat, from early last summer, when I went to Northampton, MA, to hang with some webcomics folks. Name-dropping PLUS wussing out on the FIRST DAY? BAD JUJU. Should have drawn fever dreams about zombie tetris and going back to grad school in one of those "why does…
