Rapidash may not be the best Fire-type, but it's a speed demon with decent Attack value. Back in Blue version, when Wrapping moves disabled the opponent's attacks, my Rapidash was able to kick anyone's ass with Toxic and Fire Spin. It's also one of the best Horn Drill-ers in any version of Pokémon, since most other Pokémon that can learn the move are slow as hell.

The absolute best Horn Drill-er I ever trained, however, would have to be my Crystal version's Smeargle. Horn Drill/Fissure and Mind Reader = cruelest battles ever, assuming he can survive the two initial hits he has to take. And isn't fighting Gengar.

My buddy, Josh, has a Gengar that he ALWAYS uses hypnosis with. In one battle, he successfully put five of my pokemon to sleep. It's annoying as hell. So, I got Darkrai, taught him Dark Void, and did the same dirty trick on him. =D

Man, you gotta get off the Legendaries.
  • edited June 2008
I hate the Legendaries. They can all go to hell. I went to GameStop to pick up Deoxys for the PokéDex, but I seriously doubt I'll ever use it. Where's the fun in beating people down with a Pokémon you got at level 50? I'd much rather raise one from a babe, train it up, and kick those lousy Legendaries' asses. Now that's what I call a Pokémon Master.

I know, it's unhealthy. On the plus side, I did make a battle tested Lopunny that knows Fire Punch, Sunny Day, Giga Impact, and SolarBeam. It's ability, Cute Charm, is a gigantic bitch, too.

I agree Mario. I'll still train my ass off to go out and capture all the legendaries, but they typically sit in my specially designated legendary box, and then I stop caring.

I hate all of you. Now I want to start playing again.

Resist it man!!! Play a Digimon game instead! (Uhg, that felt wrong.)
  • edited June 2008
Goddamnit, now I'm gonna pick up both Tactics Advance and Pokémon Diamond. I actually like the older Pokémon titles more, but Diamond has online play, so it's like, play a game that's awesome but designed for multiplayer only you never get to play with anyone, or play a game that's not quite as awesome but you have access to opponents online.

    Yeah, that's a good analogy.

I think you've redeemed yourself with that Lopunny, Scott.

And man... Digimon... in which medium did Digimon have its genesis? I just remember that bastardy cartoon.
  • edited June 2008
I seem to recall Digimon coming into its own on the PS1. Didn't the early games have the ability to generate monsters from audio CDs? I thought that was a neat gimmick.
  • edited June 2008
I would have no idea when it comes to Digimon, all I know is that I hated it with a passion after seeing a few episodes of the show at my friend's house and that it was a bit... Simpleminded.

On a side note, you seem to have played Maple at one point Mario, did you know they have a trading card game now?
  • edited June 2008
    Plants are cool. Photosynthesis FTW!

'Cept when they make us kill ourselves in bad movies. That's substantially less FTW.

We tried to organize Maple Story games back on Inksandwich, but I didn't play frequently enough and quickly fell behind my friends' progression. Also, other players were complete asshole, always stealing my kills and keeping me from leveling up, so I quickly tired of the play environment. I was not aware of the trading card game... until now.

Really? I don't really remember having to deal with any complete assholes, but I suppose I must have avoided them. Anyways, the overall community is much nicer now from what I can tell.

Heh, the card game is pretty entertaining surprisingly. They put codes on the cards that you get items from in game too (only like five codes per set/deck/whatever), so it's not completely un-worth it. I would never buy a set for myself though.

Actually you're thinking of Monster Rancher, not Digimon. Digimon is a misshapen clone of Pokemon, where there's only like 6 monsters and they are constantly evolving and unevolving and evolving again (always into the same monsters) to the constant wheeze of a generic anime serial.

Monster Rancher was pretty neat, if a bit unfathomable. It also did a bit of self promotion, because the best monster could only be obtained by inserting Tecmo's Deception, a game by the same publisher.

Ah yes, that was the one. Kind of a spiritual successor to Barcode Battler, in terms of the monster-generation.

I remember the short trend of getting into MapleStory on inksandwich, but I better remember the specific gunbound thread and various screenshots of the game.

EDIT: DI, your post made me laugh!
  • edited June 2008
Oh, I completely missed that one.

You know, I do enjoy photosynthesis quite a bit. Sometimes I lament the fact that our ancient ancestors never took a hint from photosynthetic beings and got themselves some chlorophyll while the gettin' was good. We're still stuck eating to survive while plants are livin' it up.

I had venus flytrap at my dorm for a while. It must have ate some bugs coming in through the screen window, I never fed the thing and it survived for about 5 months. Then winter came and killed it, a sad day indeed.

    Digimon came first.

    That surprises me.

But it appears that I have been served.

Am I the only one who just used one pokémon over and over again, usually the first in my list, thus giving me a strong first pokémon, but crappy other ones?

Nah, when I was working at a daycare center, most of the kids behaved similarly. They had an insanely strong Charizard, a surprisingly high-level Pidgey, and pretty much didn't carry anyone else. Personally, I won't even move onto a new area until my team has all leveled up evenly.

Pokemon was released in Japan in 1996, and the Digimon virtual pets, which where basically tamagotchi, were released in 1997. Pokemon came first.

I believe that was Monster Rancher.

Also, we should totally get some Pokemon battles goin'. When I finish Team White Power (all I have to do is get my Gallade and finish EV Training Froslass's special attack), then I'd be up for it. I still have plenty of pokemon to battle with until then, but Team White Power going to be my new main party.

That may be because the last time I played a pokémon game was when I was 10, but you know.

I really need to pick up a new DS and Diamond

    I know. I'm a terrible trainer. )=
  • edited June 2008
I usually don't EV train, but I'm doing it to my pichu because they're such crappy pokemon.
  • edited June 2008
Most people's solutions to Pichu's crappy stats involve this crazy newfangled "evolution" concept.
