Sonic Unleashed

edited February 2009 in Games
Gee, I don't think they've made a Sonic game this good since Sonic Adventure 2: Battle! The series has been a piece of crap lately, but this game looks very promising. I think this might be the rivival of my Sonic fandom. What do you guys think? I'm asking for it for Christmas.

Sadly the game is about 60% shitty wolf section, 40% Sonic sections

I think the day stages will make it worth it.

It occurs to me then that THEY SHOULD JUST MAKE THE WHOLE GAME LIKE THAT.

Sega is way out of touch with their roots.

    So... he's a were-hog? A hedge-wolf?

Remember when Sonic was 2D? They should try that again, that was working out pretty well for them.

I read somewhere that part of the reason they didn't make it 100% running levels is because it took much more effort to make ~10 miles of track just so Sonic can run through it in 3 minutes.
  • edited December 2008
Yes, because it's so awful to go the extra mile for a video game franchise that's spiraling down the drain, if it hasn't already been flushed by now.

Did they change Sonic's voice actor? He sounded completely different in the Dreamcast games and the old cartoons.
  • edited December 2008
It is my hope that, one day, Sonic won't need a voice actor. Sonic+Voice=Crap.
  • edited December 2008
Jaleel White is the only sonic voice there should be. (Thats the old Cartoons.)

And Mario needs to be Captain Lou Albano.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle wasn't actually a good game. It had the same issue, where only the Sonic parts were any fun at all, and the Tails/Knuckles parts blew chunks. Sorry Sonic Team, but if two-thirds of your game is shitty, then the whole game is shitty.

Funny sory about the sonic cartoons. Anybody heard of Youtube poop? (YTP) Yeah, people screw with the SAY NO TO SEXUAL HARRASMENT mini-segment of Sonic Says. People also screw with the CD-i Zelda games (which don't exist?)

Yeah, but the game looks good.

Well, I'm not a Sonic fan. My little brother is, though. I show him this, he asks for it for Christmas. He'll read your post, Hamelin, insist that's not how it happens, and get the game. Then, he'll play it NONSTOP despite the fact he'll hate it to try to mask the fact I was right, which I usually am.

The game LOOKS good. It probably won't be. I looked up other stuff, and it looks pretty bad.
By the way, are you referring to Sonic's friends?
  • edited December 2008
    Yes he is.

Sonic's been pal'n around with terrorists.
  • edited December 2008
Sonic is best friends with Bill Ayers.

Actually, my friend is an avid fan of the sonic games, he's actually enjoyed all of them besides the new Sonic the Hedgehog next-gen game for the Wii cause the controls suck. However because of this I know the problems with the game overly well.

From what I can tell the graphics were damn good, there seemed to be few to zero glitches with the camera, collision detection, or controls, AND the gameplay in this one seems like it might feel like Sonic is actually traveling at supersonic speeds. Those are the main problems they've seemed to have fixed. I'm VERY hopeful for this one.

Edit: Just looked at the reviews for gamefaqs, only two or three out of the 30 or so in the 360 and Wii sections were below 7/10, no reviews in the PS3 section, and one 10/10 in the PS2 section. Looking good Sonic.

Hamelin, this game has broken that cycle, in my opinion.
  • edited December 2008
Your opinion can't be trusted. You liked Wii Music.

I never actually got to play that. Did anyone else besides Carter play that? I assumed it wasn't good just from the composing video Carter used as an example, but the rest of the game might be better lol.

My friend said he got Wii Fit as an early birthday present, and he played it with his family and they all had a lot of fun with it. He's the youngest one in his family and he's almost 21, so maybe some cheesy wii games are still fun to mess around with :)

I certainly had fun boxing in Wii Sports, as long as I had something else to play the majority of the time.

Much of the movement of characters was sadly unavaliable in Wii sport games like tennis and boxing. I mean, they worked great for a game you got free with the system (unless there's an added ten bucks in there, because I can't imagine Wii Sports costs anymore than Wii Play.) The point is, your tennis charcters could not be layer controlled with the D-pad on the remote, and they were often out of position to make plays for me. There was some maneuverabliity in Wii Boxing, but I think everytime you moved in the small circle of movement, your opponent stayed opposite you. It was fun, but I nabbed strikers off the shelves ASAP.

    *pops in*

Usually I'm not really a Sonic fan, but personally I think Sonic Unleashed looks good. ...And seeing as I don't have a PS2/3/whatever or an Xbox360, I guess I'll just have to deal with the Wii version. :P

I'm just happy I'll be able to play with the Gamecube controller.

I also watched part of a walkthrough and it looked really fun to me (although I'd rather play as regular Sonic than the werehog but who the hell cares) so I'm just going to get it. XD
Bah, once I beat it I'll just throw it in my closet for it to collect dust anyway. XD

...I use XD too much. o3o

Yahtzee trys out Sonic Unleashed in this weeks newest Zero Punctuation
  • edited December 2008
Wow.... that seemed harsh, even for him.
  • edited December 2008
    Thats what I was thinking...
  • edited December 2008
You shouldn't watch Yahtzee's reviews if you're expecting anything else. I thought it summed up the state of Sonic games rather perfectly, actually, though his complaint about trial and error gameplay would not be unique to the current generation; Sonic 1 and 2 had a shitload of unforeseeable spike pit deathtraps.

On the plus side, they were fun to play.
  • edited December 2008
I wasn't saying that it was unnecessarily harsh... I love Yahtzee's cruel sense of humor.

I was commenting that it was harsher than usual... meaning that it must REALLY suck.
  • edited December 2008
Well, he did say that right in the review.

Looks like yet another game I'll have to enjoy by myself.
