Skype movie night

edited April 2011 in Movies and Shows
I remember a while back, Jake and I used to watch episodes of house while discussing them on skype. Some surreal observations occurred.

Anyone ever thought of trying this? We all hook up on skype and watch a movie while commenting on it all the while.

What say ye?

I like it! However, I only have access to relatively popular stuff. If it's obscure, then there's a good chance I can't get to it here.

    I approve of this venture.

I may have to consider this. I would have to make a non-work account on skype and get access to movies.

I've got the skype part, I'd just have to get the movies but that shouldn't be too hard. I'm down! Do you remember what time of the day/night you usually got together to do this?

For me, it was about one in the morning, which would make it early evening for jake. But I don't sleep anyway, so I can do anytime, day or night.

    I was also drunk usually

    Drunk O'Clock!

Might this be a fun way to do SCIENCE! movies? Just puttin' that out there.

    nnnnnnoooooooooo...

also, why switch to skype when most of the people here are already on AIM?
  • edited December 2009
Because AIM sucks, and I'm never on AIM. I haven't even reinstalled it since getting my new lappy.

Now, you know what would be cool? doing the thing on Steam. No particular reason why it would be cool, just would. WAIT... Everyone needs microphones. Skype without text = Skype without suck. Not trying to imply Skype sucks, I've never tried it, but I'd much rather speak at my computer than type on my computer.

I think that would be difficult with a large group of people, especially with me. I would do a lot of the talking, considering my voice is like audible chocolate.

I'd speak Spanish only to annoy you all.

I don't have Steam. Does Skype allow for multiple people video chats? I know AIM does, but I've also had a lot of problems with video chats using AIM. If we are doing video, I can guarantee Skype will be better.

    Skype does I'm pretty sure.

    In.

So, let's bring this idea back to the forefront and do this shit ASAP.

    Quick! Pick a film!

    Some sort of pornography.

    One Eyed Monster?

I've seen it before but it's quite hilarious; I'd watch it again.

    Fits Ryan's description too!

Teeth might also work. Fun movie.

I'm cool with any ol' flick as long as I have time to procure it.

    Also: Riki-Oh.

Bruce and I were talking, it would be easiest if we could all stream them from a single place, so each person doesn't have to worry about trying to obtain the movie themselves.

This is a link to a Chinese site. THe video is south park. It's basically a Chinese version of youtube, there are others like it here. China has more full movies up online to watch, so if you don't have any moral qualms, we can all watch movies from here.

Try the video, tell me how it loads.

Smooth as butter in the uk, only took a few seconds to buffer.

Although, I should probably specify, only mainstream and popular stuff will be available here. Anything obscure will probably not be available.

Didn't work initially, then I tried a different browser and it worked alright at first but stopped loading before the 6 minute mark of the video.

Netflix on Xbox Live has a Party feature, which lets you watch the same movie, and talk while you're doing so. Pretty much what we're talking about here, but with easier access to the movies.

Ryan's site worked beautifully for me

How many people have Xboxes 'round these parts?
  • edited April 2010
The boyfriend's XBox is currently in my living room; does that count as owning one?

It's not currently connected to the internet, but I'm sure we could figure something out. I don't have a netflix account though.

I got Netflix but no Box of X. I probably wasn't going to participate anyway though.

Well I'm Xboxless. I've got Netflix and plenty of devices for streaming, but none with live chat features that I'm aware of. I still vote for Skype.
