Yarnstorming

edited April 2006 in 6:35
Now that I teach knitting classes, I am starting a personal knitting site/blog for my patterns and info. I'm trying to think of a site name that implies hardcore knitting without offending little old ladies. Here are some I've thought of:

Empire of Knit (or Knitted Empire, not sure)
Woolen Fist
Yarnemy (possibly followed by Of The State)

Any suggestions? Sadly, I believe Yarnema is taken. ^__^

Yarnemy of the State or Woolen Fist work!

    Yarnstorming works.

Or you could go with something like:
    Clash of the Needles.
    Woolvolution.
    YMCA (Yarn Manipulators Computerised Assignments)

My vocabulary is a little thin in the knitting department.
Off the top of my head, something like "Iron Knit" or the like. I do like "Yarnstorm" too.

A name that implies hardcore... without insulting old ladies?

    eXREME Knit!

You know, my initial response was "Knit, Motherfucker!"

"How about of Knit the hell up? Now you will go to sleep, or I will put you to sleep!"

Is it just me, or is Stef actually requesting puns here?

Or at least, something disturbingly similar to puns.

I think that, perhaps, Stef has intentionally phrased this activity in a way that convinces her that there is no punning going on.

Damn it, Iguana, now that she realizes this, she won't be participating in our punnery!

Sigh. I think I didn't intend the puns, but I sure did leave the door wide open. That said, most knitting puns are bad, bad, bad. I am rationalizing this dabbling with the forbidden wordplay in the name of unearthing knit puns that are not screamingly, screamingly trite. Do you know how much mileage they get out of the word "purl"? Wretch.

In fact, one of my first posts on this blog was going to break down which puns should be done and which puns are up-and-coming. Knit = Shit, as used in JC's post, is an up-and-coming pun, though with the publication of "Knit Happens", a recent book of hip patterns, I think knit=shit will make the overuse list within a year.

May I present my most blatant pun to add to this list: Citizen Skein.

I honestly do not know enough about knitting to make puns.

What the hell is a "purl?" Skein?

Hah, funny you bring that up, Stef; I just watched Citizen Kane on Monday.

    yarn ( P ) Pronunciation Key (yärn)
    n.
    1. A continuous strand of twisted threads of natural or synthetic material, such as wool or nylon, used in weaving or knitting.
    2. Informal. A long, often elaborate narrative of real or fictitious adventures; an entertaining tale.
    intr.v. Informal yarned, yarn·ing, yarns
To tell an entertaining tale or series of tales.

If this is going to be in blog form, with the idea of progress/change, maybe the second meaning might be put to good use. Yarn tale, somesuch.

so stef, have you started this blog yet?

And, more importantly, have you used one of my name suggestions for it?
  • edited April 2006
oh, according to the 6:35 news thingie, stef isn't making a blog anymore. so much for all of your yarn-related puns!
  • edited April 2006
I'm sure with a strict regimen of low-grade badgering we could convince Stef to start one still.

It did only mention not giving out the URL to customers.
  • edited April 2006
good point. i would still be interested in her projects and stuff. i need knitting inspiration and i demand that stef provide it!

And I want to see all the nasty things Stef has to say about knitting and knitters.

My internet browsing has been sorely lacking in good vitriol lately.
  • edited April 2006
i'm not sure how much vitriol can be aimed at knitters really.
