I have actually completed a few games since my last post here! Saints Row 3 and Mirror's Edge. I'm a proud panda.

I must find my old Castlevania DS game. You made that your bitch.

I just started playing Dawn of Sorrow again today.

    Weird.

I've mostly been spending my gaming time playing Magic.

You keep up with recent sets? I've gotten into MTG in the past year or so.

In the last three months I have spent more on video games than I have in the last three years. Yet I have played almost none. Damn adulthood.

I went back and played through Majora's Mask. Good times!

I've been converted from contractor to full time at work. I'm a real boy!

Additionally, I'm moving into an apartment by myself – sans family or roommate – for the first time ever! Gonna live a little closer to work, and right down the street from downtown Mountain View, so I'll have easy access to public transportation.

I've been the same way. Ever since getting a job I've bought all the things I couldn't afford back in school, and have had no time or space to use any of them.

As I mentioned in the Awesome SUCCESS Thread, I recently became a Level 1 MtG judge, so I kinda have to keep up the the new sets. I've been judging at a smaller store in town called Outland Comics, and I'm going to be spending all next weekend head-judging the Theros pre-release.

Mostly I like to play limited, but I play constructed formats as well. Tis a very fun game.

Heeeeeey since I posted in the Love Sweet Love thread earlier, I'm curious-- what's everyone up to nowadays?

I got that full time offer at the awesome job last September (RE: older post in this thread), still workin there to this day. It's still pretty amazing, although I'm not quite as ecstatic about the whole situation as I was when I first started. Still trying to figure out a nice work-life balance despite working here for some time, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually! Still living with Greg the awesome boyfriend-- our 2 kitties are even more adorable than they used to be (seriously I'd bet money my cat is cuter than yours), and Greg's STILL working towards that undergrad degree whilst working full time. Poor kid, he's been working like crazy the past few years. Life is still comfortable, but we're still on the up and up. Hows things for yous guys?

I'm on break between a couple quarters at school. Had a very strong job lead that kinda died on me which was a bummer, but it happens I guess. I got one more quarter left and am fast entering a "find a good job" phase as I finish out my last quarter over the next few months. For me that pretty much means it'll be one of the more hellish and shitty times in my life, but hopefully something good comes out of it.

I went on a job search recently, but nothing came of it. I'm going to put that on hold for now though, since I need to be able to take vacation time in late August when my sister gets married in France. So, I get to go to France. That's pretty cool. I've also been working on my show a lot. Haven't had much of a drive to work on it recently for various reasons. But I'm sure I'll get it back soon enough. I always seem to hit a rough patch when I've been working on a particular episode for longer than I'd like.

Still school. Getting back into the full swing of independence and moving back out of my childhood home. Things are going well. Been caring for chickens and plants with my mum for a couple years now, now it's time to go back to campus I guess! Happier than I've been for a while, though I can't say I'm super happy all the time, just with certain people.

Listening to the Journey OST right now and it makes me moody and emotional. God that game was powerful.

I just got back from a vacation in France. My sister got married! It was a lot of fun, but I'm really glad I don't have to go on a vacation for a while again.

That's quite a ways to travel.

Don't I know it. 14 hours of flying, there and back. If I don't sit on a plane for a good year or so, I think I'd be fine with that.
  • edited September 2014
Gah, that's how I felt when I flew to Australia. Good news is that every other plane I've flown in since was great in comparison!

Seeing a new country is pretty magical though. I've been itching for an out-of-the-US adventure for a couple years now, haven't been able to find an opportunity where money and vacation time were in sync. I keep telling myself, maybe next year...

Oh for sure. Seeing France is something I'll appreciate for all of my life. I just think the next vacation I'm taking is gonna be within the USA.
  • What's uuuuuup. I've been living in my house for a couple months now, and the cats now give their full approval of the move. Work has been downright crazy the past 6 months or so, but I recently got a promotion to "data engineer" so it seems to have paid off! Plus I get to be in the "engineer" boat now which is really cool. Boyfriend and I have had a helluva time with various small projects around the house that the previous owners left for us, but overall no regrets-- the housing market in Austin has only been going up, and if we were looking to buy this exact same house now I'm not sure we would be able to afford it. Very glad we got in when we did.

Looking forward to a trip to Italy in July! It should be wonderful-- greatly looking forward to a vacation at this point, and Italy should be a fantastic trip. It's Greg's first time out of the U.S. so he's super excited, we just got our passports in the mail last week. We're set to leave July 15, and I'll be able to spend my birthday in Florence. Yippee!!

In smaller news, we've made it a mission to watch Star Wars episodes 1-3 this weekend. We successfully made it through episode 1, but episode 2 is always the hardest. I'm sure we'll fight through though.

What are you fine folks up to lately???
  • Double post: second episode wasn't as bad as I remembered. Natalie Portman is still my role model
  • Lauren, that's great news (all of it).

The girlfriend and I bought a house in Pittsburgh. I'm a grad student here. Aside from the whole Air Force thing, I've been in school my entire adult life (and honestly, they took such good care of me in the military, that it was barely an adult life). One day I'd like to travel, but the house needs a new roof, and we're still paying off a replacement (although super efficient) furnace we needed to get in January. Also there's the dogs. Ahhh, the dogs. Well, one day we'll travel. I'd like to see Europe and Asia.

I'm supposed to be writing up a research outline. Instead I'm posting on this forum and listening to Spotify.

We also got in Magic: the Gathering recently! Silver, do you still play? We're very excited for Origins to come out in July.
  • Magic is teh best.
  • Magic has been around for a long time it seems. I remember kids playing it in middle school. Now I got a little nephew who would probably be more than happy to tell me all about it. Yet I still know little beyond that it is a collectible card game called Magic: The Gathering.

Strangely I often thought life as an adult would be all work and no play when I was young. Looking at it I don't think it is all that bad. There is work, but can be rewarding.
  • I don't play MTG anymore. I moved onto Hearthstone, though, so I still get my fix.

In other news, I'll be moving into my condo in a couple of weeks! It's right next to a park, and pretty close to work. About the best place I could have bought for myself around here.
  • Haha, I've never played MTG or Hearthstone but I've heard both were great. I dunno, witnessing so many kids collect SO MANY pokemon cards in the 90s left a bad impression on me as far as collectible card games, but I'm sure I'd get sucked in as soon as I tried it.

I enjoyed school while I was an undergrad but I am glad to have graduated. I haven't completely ruled out the possibility of grad school, but if I do make it back it won't be anytime soon... also I have no idea what I would study. Sooo it probably won't happen. :) Kudos if you can keep it up though, multiple degrees/masters'/p.h.d's have always been super impressive to me. At my current stage in life I could compare it to the mad respect I have for people with kids... man I'm glad I don't have kids right now. (Phew!)

Texas got SO MUCH RAIN on Memorial Day.. watched a gaddang river form through my backyard, thankfully no flooding into the house though. Former (idiot) Texas Governor Rick Perry's 'pray for rain' stunt he pulled a couple years ago must have finally come true! ((http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Days_of_Prayer_for_Rain_in_the_State_of_Texas))
  • I've thought about a masters in computer science. My biggest issue is I'd have no idea where I'd get it around here. And also the fact that I'm not sure I could handle work and school together, because I'm lazy.
  • I checked my phone at work and all was well. I get home 20 minutes later and my phone is dead. No power, won't respond to any attempt to charge. Yet I was more irate about the traffic on the way home than the phone. I guess I wasn't that attached to it.
  • I mean to be fair. Traffic is the straight up worst.
