Guitar Hero 2.

edited November 2006 in Games
It came out today, and I'm in love. If anyone plays, what was the first song you failed? Mine was Freya on Expert. I actually had to stop playing because my wrist started getting all tingly, I think I might be getting carpal tunnel.

I haven't played it, but I'm willing to bet it's no PaRappa The Rapper.

It does seem like fun, since in DDR or such you had to to focus on the direction pads, and this is like using a proper guitar. Just remember the position of the fret buttons, and strum your way to glory.

Hopefully nintendo or someone else makes a Wiimote enclosure shaped like a guitar and makes a guitar hero-esq game :)

It's supposed to be released on all major consoles, so that might include the Wii.

Yes, Guitar Hero will eventually be on the Wii. Though not for awhile most likely.

I love the first Guitar Hero. But as I do not own a ps2, only get to play it at my friend's houses. As soon as it comes out for the Wii, I shall be sure to grab it.

I ONCE PLAYED GH AT MY FRIENDS, BUT HE DID NOT HAD THE GUITAR. :(

    ALSO, TROGDOR IS ON GH2:

I still have a lot of songs to get through in GH1 before buying the new one. I want to get another bundle and try to get Mary to play, but I don't know if she'll go for it.

Mario: nothing else is Parappa the Rapper. GH is a totally different genre anyway, but nothing (except for Um Jammer Lammy, and... okay, maybe Gitaroo Man) can touch Parappa.

DESPITE ITS OUTWARD APPEARANCE, GUITAR HERO IS NOT A GUITAR-PLAYING GAME. SINCE YOU'RE ONLY PUTTING FINGERS ON FRETS IN TIME TO THE ON-SCREEN INDICATORS, IT'S A RHYTHM-BASED GAME, JUST LIKE DDR, AND JUST LIKE PARAPPA THE RAPPER. SO IT'S PERFECTLY FAIR TO COMPARE THEM, AND GUITAR HERO AIN'T NO PARAPPA THE RAPPER.

CHECK! AND TURN! THE SIGNAL TO THE RIGHT!
    NOW TURN TO THE RIGHT!

It doesn't hold a candle to Samba de amigo, of which the controllers worked very similarly to the wiimote, using a sensor bar.

Sorry to arouse your caps. I distinguish between instrument-playing arcade-style Bemani games (which GH totally is!) and story-based less-concrete rhythm games! I was going to say something about "music games" vs. "rhythm games" but I got confused and don't want to press it.

Anyway, I don't know why you got so upset. I was agreeing with you that GH was not as good as Parappa.

It's weird to say that in the GH thread, though. Really, if we can only talk about games that are as good as Parappa, then this is the "UmJammer Lammy Discussion Board."

    Which would be fine.

edit: If someone would like to sell me some Samba maracas, that would be great. I didn't have $80 when they came out. I guess I don't now either.

Actually, it was still ALL-CAPS DAY in his time zone when mario posted.

If anyone got the impression that I don't like PaRappa or Lammy by making a thread about Guitar Hero, just throw that right out. I own (and love) Um-Jammer Lammy, but Guitar Hero 2 was a bit more timely.

Anyway, Hangar 18 is killing my fingers and because of that, I haven't been able to play Free Bird yet. Trogdor is awesome though.

I thought ALL-CAPS DAY was in October. I totally missed it.

Sorry about the misunderstanding. ALL-CAPS DAY is the second Wednesday of November, and I was just commenting in the spirit of the day. I did enjoy the short playtime I got with Guitar Hero in some Fry's Electronics one day.

Kind of like when I was screwed out of my Hey You, Pikachu
game when I lost the N64 mike. But I just found it today! I wish to jam on a guitar on the Wii.

Is it possible I'm not the only person who does not have a PS2?

I have a SNES and an N64 and a DS now

I don't have a PS2 either! I had to borrow my friends so I could play KH.

I don't have a PS2 either, but I'm thinking of getting one soon. Not sure if I should wait a few weeks to see if the prices for used ones go down when the PS3 is released, though.

...Huh. Okay, well, all you guys should go get PS2's now. They're a lot cheaper than Wiis, easier to find, and you'll have more fun playing all the cheap games you've missed out on.
  • edited November 2006
I might buy one when I'm back in Japan. Otherwise I'll have to stock up on games before I leave, too. I love the non-regional-specific DS. I can buy games anywhere and they'll all work.

Yep. Handheld systems are great like that.

    Back to Gyakuten Saiban 2!

I don't own a PS2. I'm a Nintendo fanboy, so I'm too busy collecting old Nintendo systems. I have the NES, N64, Gamecube, Donkey Kong Jr. Game n Watch, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, Gameboy Mirco, and a Nintendo DS.

I think if I get a SNES and an origional gameboy, and a DS lite, I'd have every system.

You'd also need a Virtual Boy! And several bottles of eyedrops

And a couple of Pikachu handhelds. And a Game Boy Pocket. And a Japanese Game Boy Light.

Don't forget to get both models of the SP: one with the old backlight, and one with the new, brighter backlight.

Right! Don't forget both models of the NES either! Or the Gamecube revision with different AV outs!

Oh, and you gotta get a Panasonic Q!
  • edited November 2006
Or the Color TV Game, the other 58 Game and Watches, The IQ Player, The N64DD

That's all I can think of now....

    EDIT: Oh, the Satellaview too

DOUBLE EDIT: Oh, and if you want ALL the nintendo stuff, you got alot of work ahead of you, since they've existed since 1899, and have been making toys and such since about the 60s.

Hm...maybe this is a journey I should leave for my adult self. To the Temple of Time!

Well, yeah, Night Lord, I wouldn't be so cruel as to include non-videogame stuff (like 100 years' worth of hanafuda cards), but in addition to all the multigame videogame systems (let's not forget the Famicom Disk System! Agentcel, you should get a Sharp Twin Famicom to play FDS games-- a friend of mine had one, and it's sweeet) there are plenty of Pong clones and a nice number of arcade games too! Agentcel, if you get a Radar Scope machine, call me. I'll bring soda.

I'd like some of Nintendo's crazy electronic toys like the Ele-Conga.

edit: man, this thread is going to make me go broke on eBay. I'm already itching to order a Twin Famicom of my own.
