Art Thread? Of Lang?

edited September 2006 in Comics
The purpose of the Conservatory confuses me!

Therefore, I shall claim the third thread in here as my own!

Current work:

Fixed the ear... now it's the most detailed thing in the picture, but more proportional.

...so this is okay, right? The Conservatory is not just for tutorial threads?

    You're right.

The conservatory is where prof. Plum killed the butler. I still don't know what he used though.....

EDIT of: Son of a...just saw hlavco's post in the other thread. Too late again.

This is the thread where you are supposed to be commenting on the fine looking ear Lang done made there.
  • edited February 2006
It is a very earish ear!
  • edited February 2006
Well... I guess that's what I was going for.

It reminds me of a piece of dried fruit.

That's not bad though, for some reason or another I associate ears with dried fruit.

    Is that weird?
  • edited February 2006
Only if you snack on them regularly.
  • edited February 2006
    At that point it's disturbing.

    Also!

Fun Fact: Lang's real-life ears are weirdly shaped.

I don't really like the haircut. It gets too high up in the back. It looks good in your avatar, where you can't really see how high it goes.

    Good ear, by the way.

    Maybe he's half-conehead.

I got a tablet, so now that I don't have to laboriously scan and clean, pictures will come much faster! Of course, I didn't post the above picture for like a week for some reason. Mostly because it was just a test for the tablet.

I'm not entirely happy with how this turned out, but I'll see how I feel about it tomorrow. I'm definitely not using this hairstyle again, though.

I personally like at least the texture of the hair on that last drawing.
  • edited March 2006
To be honest, I posted a picture without the texture first, then hastily... textured it and replaced it.
  • edited March 2006
I'm glad you made that decision. ^^

The colored one in particular is also cool... you used that as an avatar recently, didn't you?
  • edited March 2006
That last picture has some funky things in his eyes.
  • edited March 2006
Yeah, I did use the colored picture as an avatar... but it seemed weird to have to display it in one post (avatar and... post).

Also, the last picture is supposed to be a "she."

Because of the masculine nature of the last picture that some have commented on, I am completely retooling it. Conspicuious eyelashes, jaw relining, etc.

For further femininity, I must ask upon you all to comment and put in some feedback, which I shall promptly attempt to correct, doomed perfectionist as I am.

    Triple post!

    Latest attempt: ghwenquicknessdark.png

I did it really quick, so there are some lazy spots, but I think it's progressing.

Now I'm beginning to see how truly manlike the previous picture was.

Aaand I'm giving up for the night.

I thought the first one was recognizably feminine enough, but oh well. The recent one has more lively and full-bodied hair; The sketched nature helps it feel less like she's wearing a hair-shaped block on her head.
  • edited March 2006
    ...yay!
  • edited March 2006
Why do all of your faces look expressionless?
  • edited March 2006
The latest one is way more feminine.. The hair is a bit.. big on the sides though.. or maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Why do all of your faces look expressionless?

Because I'm not drawing them in any context, I have a tendency to make preliminary sketches quite neutral. A lot of these drawings are from drawing the character for the first time, I'm not too worried about emotions at that point.

It's true though, that it's quite creepy to see all these faces all robotic, but I'm still learning, anyway, and I feel like I have to get the basic face down before I attempt to contort them to fit a mood the character may be feeling.
  • edited March 2006
That's a good idea, I think I'll do that when I try to learn to draw again!
  • edited March 2006
But rest assured, the next picture I post will have enough expression to scald your face! Or something close to it.
  • edited April 2006
I don't want to looks at your ever-improving arts if they start to scald my face. I like my face.

if you add expressions, then our heads would probably explode 5 times from awesomeness overload

My first impression of the original was that it was a woman, but the most recent one is a definite improvement. You're really good.
