Aquaria looks pretty cool

edited December 2007 in Games
Just came across another interesting-looking independent game. Looks to be sort of a cross between Metroid and Ecco the Dolphin with a side of Loom. It's not out yet, but they've announced Windows, Mac and Linux versions. The homepage is here and there's a higher-resolution version of the trailer here.

Wow.... that's purdy. I hope I can own it and play it one day...

Damn, that looks awesome. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it. Can't wait for Spring 2007!

Yeah, it's been delayed a bit. Still, it should be out Real Soon Now.

This game looks like it would be right at home on the DS.

I hope the game is expansive and difficult! It's already atleast pretty, so that's a 1/3 for my gaming criteria.

The blog updated on the 29th of July. A few tiny screen shots and an explanation about the fauna that inhabit the world of Aquaria.

New update today with a fairly long gameplay video.

Thanks for the update, yourself! This is one game I'm very interested in. After you first linked it I wiki'd it and ended up downloading and playing Eternal Daughter. Now I'm truly psyched about Aquaria.

DOUBLE POST OF: Hey, I really like the way the battle system looks. Lots of action/dodging required. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

    OMG OMG OMG!

Aww man! Sweet! My fiancee is really fascinated too, she's already agreed to buy it for my birthday (January).

I've looked around trying to find an answer on the forums, but I haven't had any luck. Maybe you guys will know better. How do these download game releases work? If I reformat my computer, do I just have to keep the files and hope nothing gets deleted? Box copy at all?

From what I've read, there's no plans for a physical copy. Perhaps they'll keep records of who owns rights to the game. Perhaps not. As for distribution through Steam, they haven't said they were going to do it, but they haven't said they weren't.

For small enough games that I buy online, I always send a copy of the game to my GMail account.

Here is a statement from Derek and Alec. I think I'm good with that system of getting a physical copy.

Man... I'm really REALLY psyched for this game. I can't wait until Friday!

    Ding. Game's done.

I can't access the buy page though... it says that the server is unavailable due to overloaded systems or something. You guys getting the same problems?
  • edited December 2007
I can't even access the blog right now.

Then again, as far as I'm concerned the game isn't finished until the Linux version's out.

Arrrrghhh... I'm getting the error message described by a few others on the forums. Dammit! I want to play this game! Too much anticipation has been built up already!

Update: Alec provided a patch within about 45 minutes of being notified of the problem. Looks great so far. Quite beautiful.

There is a distinct lack of football in this game. I just can't get into it.

I just started playing the demo. It's pretty cool. I'm definitely going to buy this when the Linux version comes out.

It's nice to have puzzle-based boss fights that don't involve finding ways to make the boss expose its weak point so you can hit it for massive damage.

Hmm. The site linked seems to be, not to put too fine of a point on it, dead. Server issues?

Probably. It was pretty slow and unreliable last night, too. If you want the demo, here's a link to the mirror I downloaded it from. Unfortunately, I don't have the patch (although I didn't need it on my system.)

    Thanks!

Noooo, I am done with the demo.

    Augh flargle.

Did anyone else actually download the full game besides me? My game keeps crashing when I get to a particular area of the game.
  • edited December 2007
    I'm planning on it.
  • edited December 2007
I will when these bugs get worked out. And when I finish finals. I played a tiny bit at illithid's earlier, and it felt really fluid. I liked it.

Yeah, I have the full version. I hope it doesn't crash when I get to the part you're talking about. I've just beaten the first major boss of the game and am ready to explore new stuff. Are you farther than me? If so, don't tell me where you are, I want to keep being surprised.
