Male protagonist time! He appears to be going on a sneaking mission. I haven't decided whether to use hard shadows (like I did in the first entry up above) or soft Gaussian-blurred shadows like this in the comic proper. I may stick with hard, they seem to work better with the bright colors for better contrasts, but I do like a more natural looking shadow too.
Thanks, Mario (and also Stef before you).
Does this mean that I should force myself to do non-crosshatchy things? Perhaps next week should be all vector doodles.
If I do doodle, as I'll be on vaaaacaaaaatiooooon. <grin>

Once again, Witch's Brew gets me in the drawin' feelin'! We're doing anothr Brew-powered entry for the Sprite Comic Contest, especially since this one was themed around our Witch's Brew mascot, Walter! I whipped up this Zelda I-inspired sprite sheet for Walt and Rip. There's also a globe with Hokkaido as the only land mass, and it's also a monster (you'll see when the comic's done; it won't actually make any more sense, but you'll see it with your eyes anyway).
Thanks! If I had any decent programming skills, I'd seriously make games all day every day. Rest assured, Polkamoo, your day in the sun will come very soon...
Actually, Mario, this is probably a craaaazy idea, since I have zero time available, and it would only distract from Juuuuuuuune drawing, but I've been wondering if OBers might like a learn-how-to-program tutorial or code clinic forum.
Not to profess being an 31337 programming super-h4xx0r, 'cause I ain't. But I still have all my TA lessons from grad school, and it's about cool stuff like learning how to make a mosaic filter, or making games, or writing php scripts that make RSS feeds or parse podcasts and such. I'd have to change it up a bit perhaps, but at the very least, you could learn how to make your own sprite games. And once you start making libraries of code for basic stuff, you can reuse that code to make even awesomer things.
And then you and everyone would be on their way to making your own indie games and you'd all get jobs at EA and hate life forever as they work you into death! Or not.
You know what? It's probably crazy, but I love it and want to hear more about how you can teach me to make games right away. I've had a project on the backburner for a few years now, and I really want to get it made.
But back to the art: bee sprites! Plump bees always look so cute.
Made a few more NASA remixes as per the norm, a few more sprites, but this weird sketch takes the cake. I was drawing a Brew panel, and then decided to draw this creepy guy instead. He freaked me out a little. At least he's happy, with his happy jig.
I'm Lou Zealand, a boomerang fish thrower from Milwaukee!
The point of this was not to undermine Jason's fish drawing with many shitty copies-- heavens no! I'm trying to break my habit of drawing, redrawing, and redrawing the same line fifteen times and then attempting to ink over the best line of the fifteen. These sketches were all done in under three minutes with different pens and whatnot.
For this one, I tried drawing and inking more neatly, and drawing the image larger. Though it came out better than the last one, I'm not totally convinced that all the effort was worth it. I did get to try out my AQUABEE MANGA PAPER, though. The manga cops (or a giant bee girl with a bee robot) should be here any minute, since this really isn't so much manga. Oh noes.
I think the larger drawing made a big difference. The lines are a lot crisper (especially noticeable in Jude's hair), making for better color fill-ins.
I like the Orange-branded iBook. Someone should make something like that.
(Sorry, it's been a craaaazy week. First week back from vacation, first week realizing exactly how explodey things could get at work in the next month, and the week that one of my ol' grad school friends is moving back to Boston, and she needed lots of help packing. But! At midnight tonight, we finished. Karma debt for moving help repaid!)

I see very little swooning around here.

Uh, everything that Mario said.
