I vote for Nintendo DS. Way better than PSP.

I vote for the Wii as well, and not just because I'm a Nintendo fanboy, which has been the reason I've bought Nintendo consoles for the past ten years! :)

    XBOX 360 HAS MADDEN!

So does the Wii, and probably the PS3.

I abstain from voting as, having never played any of these, I am not qualified to play favorites.

Although I am fairly well informed in regards to the disparities between the 360 and the PS3 hardware and those alone make me wish deeply for the PS3 to fail in a horrible way.
Between the 360 and the Wii? Both seem to offer a bit of a different experience, both good in their own right. I'm a nintendo fan, though so my heart yearns for a Wii. The XBox has failed to fill me with incentive to leave my much favored PC.

Considering I camped out for eight and a half hours for a Wii on release night, I guess it's obvious which one I voted for.

    Innovation!

I do really like the Wii. Since I always game on a budget, I look for a few truley excellent titles over a plethora of good ones. I'm pretty sure it's only cuz I haven't really paid attention to the 360 release list, but after Gears of War and Dead Rising, I can't think of any awesome X-Box games till Halo 3 comes out.

But for the Wii, I immediately think of Wario Ware, Zelda, and Smash Bros. Not to mention the next Mario and Metroid titles. Plus all the old games, I wouldn't buy many, but for me, Dr. Mario is a must.

I still think the PS3's too expensive to be a serious contender for awhile. Either the price has to drop, or Blu-Ray has to start taking off, but at the moment, only 360 and Wii matter.

Well, if I do get one if the current gen consoles, it'll probably be a Wii, if only because it's the only one that's reasonably priced and not made by Microsoft.

Still, I find it hard to get excited about a battle between two convicted monopolists and Sony.

If this is a which do prefer, I can't comment on the PS3 but I do choose playing my Wii over my 360 for the most part, and that'll definitely pick up more once the Wii gets more titles out.

If it's a case of which I think will come out top in terms of sale, I don't know at the moment the 360 is obviously looking strong, but the Wii is selling like hotcakes and if software support is strong enough then they could shift a crap load. As for the PS3 I know it's Sony and somehow I get a strange feeling they could pull off strong sales, but with the price as silly as it is and not many appealing exclusives I really don't see how.

I'm gonna vote Wii, cause it's just immense fun, plus it has Zelda.

Edit: Meh I just read the actual poll title...I'm tired...my comments still stand anyway.

Drooling Iguana, I really would have thought you'd lean toward the PS3 for its open allowance of installing Linux. Or do you not enjoy the lack of challenge involved in getting Linux up and running? ^_^
  • edited January 2007
The problem is a matter of why would you install Linux on a PS3? It is not powerful enough to really be worthwhile. For the record, the 360 hardware is a little more powerful than the PS3 in practice.

I have to say PS3, cause I know I'll love it's Hi-Defy-goodness, and the xbox is an overpriced space heater... (ooh, served). but the Wii doesn't really compare, I have every intention of having a Wii and a PS3, it's so different that I don't consider them competition. Nintendo is WAY too inovational to be in the same category. however, the fact is I loves mah 1080p and mah HDMI, neither of which the Wii has. (Don't get me wrong, I love the thing, but HD is soooooooo pretty.)

EDIT: I should also note that at level 21 I took the Epic Microsoft Hatred Feat, so my opinion is a bit tainted.

I'm voting for Wii on the poll, but I'm voting for Turbografx-16 in my heart.

But the PS3 also has cooling problems and costs more than a 360.

No John, that is NOT Madden.

Hey kids! Use this equation to figure out which graphics driven console to buy!

Game on the PS3 = Game on the 360

Game on the 360=/= Game on the PS3.

That's cause they listen to the rap music which gives them the brain damage.

I voted for the Wii, but... I have to say I am kinda worried about their future game support. GameCube and N64 did not have fantastic game support, especially in the RPG department.. of course the Wiimote is just amazing, and has awesome potential. But games make the system... who knows?

If I went out and bought everything that could run Linux I'd have to get one of every electronic device ever made.

I've heard there's even a project to port Linux to Benjamin Franklin's kite.

Actually, what you've described here is a venn diagram, not really an equation. If you treat it as an equation, you get no where.
  • edited January 2007
That's a pretty one sided venn diagram.
  • edited January 2007
It looks like 2 equations. In fact, they would be 2 logically opposed equations.

Either way, my graphically driven console of choice would be the PC. Beats the crud out of both the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Combined.

    Still need a Wii though.

I voted wii. I've played 360 and i was very impressed by it. PC's however will always be the greatest gaming platform

    For rich people.

But seriously, PC gaming would work for me if it wasn't so damned expensive. Plus there's so few great console-esque RPGs for PC.
  • edited February 2007
That's not true. It's cheaper to upgrade your computer to play new games than it is to keep buying new consoles. Especially if you buy multiple consoles. And PC games also tend to get new content, something that only now do we see starting with console games on the 360.

So it's actually cheaper to PC game than it is to console game in the long run.
  • edited February 2007
Bull. How much does a new graphics card cost? How about the latest version of the operating system (Windows Vista, in this example) in order to run DirectX 10, which many up-and-coming games are going to require to work? Larger hard drive? Don't forget the extra RAM!

Granted, if you're using a PS3 or a 360, these costs are probably going to actually be pretty close. But as a Nintendo die-hard, $250 is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Well Serephel, the guy next door, and I all had a big conversation about this (the guy is into PC games) and our final conclusion was this. If you are comparing bleeding-edge PC with bleeding-edge console, PC is more expensive than consoles ($600 for a graphics card alone, enough to buy the most expensive console of this generation). If you're talking about just a high-level PC versus high-level console, however, they are probably pretty similar. Buy a console, cry about the games you miss on the console(s) you don't have but don't sweat it, alternately update your PC every few years and that's that.

Also, skill has a lot to do with it, you have to be computer-saavy to successfully build a cheap computer, which a lot of people just don't have.

    So, in the end? Preference.
  • edited February 2007
The estimated value of the games? I dont see how that equates, since a vast majority of the games on your list are not available on the PC. I was talking about the cost of upgrading a PC versus purchasing a new console, and the value of your game library has no bearing on that. You would have been spending that same money on something close to an equivalent amount of PC games, so the value difference is virtually zero.
