I communicate via carrier pigeon, each message I type on the internet is painstakingly carried halfway across the globe to an ancient sect of Tibetan monks that scribe the message into the great book of earthly knowledge, making it a part of what we know as reality.

But...I LIKE MSN. I have issues with the AIM service in all honesty. Mostly that is always seems slow. If I'm chatting with 2 other people it takes 3-5 seconds after I send a message before it responds and shows that it sent. Fast paced convos never happen because of this. It should not take 10 seconds to send 1 word and recieve one word back from someone who was standing by waiting to respond immediately. MSN is usually a LOT faster for me. I will concede that I have had issues with the service, but 95% of those issues were because my internet went down, or my crappy router froze up again.

In regards to PC gaming, it is indeed preference. I can and have hooked a PC to a TV and played with *gasp* controllers while sitting on a couch. Maybe you don't like this. Maybe your computer does not have a TV out. Maybe you don't like fiddling with the OS (as if you aren't doing this on current consoles anyhow?). That's fine. Are PC's cheaper than console gaming? No. BUT! Just because Mario bought a Wii does not mean he does not have a computer. Even his Macs can play a large library of games that could rival or likely surpass any a console. If he was a more typical person and had a Dell or Gateway or HP computer, he could probably buy better power supply and a mid-range graphics card for a total of about $300 and believe it or not, he's probably in business. He'd now have a gaming class rig. I'm not kidding. You do NOT have to spend hundreds of dollars to get the newest components. Not unless you are obsessed. So really the price difference is not a real factor (I've calculated that in order to buy a Wii and all the accessories I'd want with it I'd end up racking up well over $600 and still need a TV because I do not have my own TV :( ).
On ANOTHER note, I spend vast amounts of time playing with editors. I like Unreal Tournament not for the game, but for unrealEd. I like Neverwinter Nights, but have never played through the game. I immediately became lost in the delights of the toolset that came with it. Hell, I have an editor for Chips Challenge. I got a friend who has been modding Diablo 2. He also tweaked Dungeon Siege 2. There are few to no games that we don't end up modding. Hell, we modded a mod for Diablo Hellfire. These are things that are not possible on a console. Yet, if modding isn't your cup of tea, you really aren't into computers that much, or just really prefer the games that are on consoles, then be my guest and spend your time and money there. I'll wave hello from under a desk as I install some new hardware to run the games that I'll blow all my time writing/rewriting instead of playing. And I'll enjoy every minute of it.

EDIT: whew. That was a long one. Sorry about that, but I gotta warm up as I have an 8-10 page research paper to write that will be covering all these consoles, PCs and the like.

I like editors too. My favorite thing about most games is the customization. Which is why I was so disappointed with Tony Hawk's Project 8 for PS2: They got rid of the park editor! How could they do that? They also severely limited the Create-a-Skater. Curse them.

The normal person thinks "I want this guy's shirt to be blue instead of red" or "I want this ramp to be here, not there". I think "I want to be a ball of fire refrigerator-boarding on the moon as it gets sucked into a black hole. And I want to be battling cowboys with swords while doing so". But then, I realise the impossibility of what I'm thinking and become disenchanted with the game, toss it aside, and move on.

I connect to the internet using my mind.

Huh. That'd be so much easier than picking up the phone and yelling "100111001100111..." into it. I guess I've been going about it all wrong.

The trick is to use the power of your mind to direct the actions of your hands to push buttons on your computer.

Didn't you just kinda give an example, of, say, I dunno, how PCs are cheaper than consoles? People seem to forget I'm talking about over a longer period of time than just "Should I buy a PC or a Wii?"

I have never had that happen on AIM. And even if it did, it's still better than chatting with MSN. Every time MSN pops up with "Your message could not be delivered..." a kitten or puppy is hit by a semi. Please, think of the kittens and puppies.

1.)That is why I had a "BUT!" in there. PC gaming isn't guaranteed to cost more. Still, if you are into it, it's very easy to spend more because the possibility is there to do so to a large degree.

2.) I'm not saying MSN is perfect. I'm just saying the AIM service from my exact spot has been nothing short of horrible. Also I do not have issues like that with MSN very often.

Yeah, but you think MSN would take note of the damn problem by now and do something.

Yeah... That really never happens. At least to me.

Of course now that he said something, NOW is when MSN has been acting up on me. Thanks a lot. Jerk. :)

Uh-oh. You must have defective software. Uninstall it and download the lastest version so you can talk to MSN all day long!

Hey, not my fault MSN is a shoddy piece of crap. :)

YIM is the same damn thing as MSN, except it works properly.

I think we're the only forum that has threads go from the topic of console wars to preffered IM services. I guess we just really don't care what console is better.

If we want to know which is favorite, we can look at the top of the page. Hey, the ps3 got a second vote!
  • edited February 2007
The PS3 and 360 are neck-in-neck for second place! Who will win the coveted not-last place?
  • edited February 2007
    Wii, obviously. ;)

I'm writing a long report for my Business Policy and Strategic Management class about the success of Nintendo and how it's revolutionizing the gaming industry.

It's possibly the most enjoyable paper I've ever had to write.

Bubs, for his pumpakin that scares the crap out of The Cheat.

You don't have to tell me that! It's the only console I actually own!

Pokemon Ruby is outselling the PS3 too. Weird.
    ... and Wii wins again.

That's only because SNES has Barbie Vacation Adventure.

    Duh.
