Yeah, Mosh 1 is a bitch, and the song is so fast that star power doesn't really help that much. You'll eventually get it though.

You're going to play guitar hero in your underwear?
  • edited November 2007
Hellz yeah!! That's going to be awesome!!!

And deku, I feel for you. That song is a bitch. It doesn't even help to slow it down and practice. I practiced Mosh 1 on slow and got 89%, practiced it on normal and got 33%.

But yes, you'll beat it. I just can't wait til you get to the end. THEN you'll be cursing.

ATTN: This game will be obsolete in 15 days, so get your playing time in while you can.

Only for rich people. For us poories, we're still going to play Guitar Hero with tears in our eyes.

On another interesting note, Guitar Hero might start to be used as a therapy at work.

I work in special ed, and we have a whole team of therapists that work with our kids. The occupational therapist (they work with fine motor skills and such) was talking to the nurse about how this one kid was getting really bored with all the therapies he was having to do. So the nurse mentioned this game her son has called "Guitar Hero". She explained a bit about what it was and the OT got pretty excited. I guess this kid is going to start using Guitar Hero in his therapy. Pretty sweet.

Not for wii owners sadly. We have to wait until sometime in 2008.

I think I've got my brother convinced to get a 360 for Christmas though, so when I visit home I might be able to play then. My dad wants Rock Band just for the drums, so he wants to get it for my brother too haha.

Man, the South Park episode was so good, despite being terribly inaccurate. I actually had an idea to put Heroin Hero in an episode of my flash cartoon (that never got made) a while back.

Thad here can play Guitar Hero acoustic.

My brother's giving me Guitar Hero III for free.

Everyone at Nevrsoft got a free copy of the game, and he's going to use his massive employee discount to get me the Wii version.

On a related note, since Activision is his parent company, he gets discounts on all their titles too. He showed me the games he could choose from.

    Activision's library isn't that impressive.

Alright, maybe you guys can give me some advice. I'm having a real problem with single notes played in really really fast succession. An example of this is the "Breakneck Desperado" section of Knights of Cydonia on expert. I can hit the notes a little slower than they need to be played, and I can hit them faster than they need to be played. When I put it on slow, I can play it just fine, but on normal speed it's just not right. Any ideas?

Other than learning to up/down stroke, (which you probably already have if you've beaten hard.) you just have to work out the timing.

I finally beat hard today. I was stuck on raining blood for forever. But Lou I beat on my 3rd try.

It's not really a matter of timing...I have pretty good rhythm and I know the beat, it's just getting my hand to move consistently at the right speed. When I'm moving a little to slow, my hand is going almost at it's upper limit. But I can do this thing (I'm sure everyone can) where I shift my hand into a hyper mode, where I'm using my muscles a bit differently and move it WAY faster than it needs to go. It's just getting the middle that's hard, especially because when I'm moving my hand that fast, it's a bit inconsistent. It's hard for me to keep it going that fast without slowing a bit. I've been getting it a little bit, but it's still tough.

Oh and congrats on hard. Raining Blood was really tough for me too, took me a while. Lou took me a REALLY long time because I couldn't hit the notes completely accurately. But as I kept playing, I got better and better and finally was able to hold out.

I've actually been having a tougher time with battles on Expert. I could get through Tom Morello's song, I just couldn't kill him for the longest time. And it REALLY pissed me off that he had this huge section at the end where he kept playing and playing and I couldn't do a damn thing. Slash was hard for me too, until I found the right section to use my battle items in. There's a specific solo, and if you drop a few items during that solo, he just dies. I'm not looking forward to Lou...

If you're losing your multiplier, but aren't hearing wrong note sounds, you're going too slow. If you hear wrong note sounds, you're going too fast.

I never even figured out hammer-ons and pull-offs (or whatever) guitar hero 2.

What were they talking about? I couldn't get a hold of it, even with the tutorials.

I think that's why I couldn't even get halfway through medium.
  • edited November 2007
Hammer ons and pull offs are actually pretty simple. They mean essentially the same thing for Guitar Hero, and are only named differently because they are different when playing real guitar.

Basically, while playing guitar, you can quickly change to a higher note without strumming by putting your finger on a higer fret. This is a hammer on. Removing a finger from the fret is a pull-off, and will transition to a lower note. (Assuming you have another finger on the appropriate fret).

Guitar Hero simulates that. If there are two notes close together, you only need to strum once and just press the frets at the appropriate time.

I still don't get it. I need video.

they've got a few on youtube.

If I wanted to search through YouTube I wouldn't be complaining to you guys!

I looked on youtube and I couldn't really find anything... but I might be able to give you part of a song that might be good for demonstrating how to do hammerons and liftoffs. It's Evenflow on Expert. Go into practice mode, put it on expert, and go to just the section called 'Chorus 1'. The first four notes that come to you are chords. Just ignore them for this exercise. Directly after the four chords, you're going to get six notes, G R G R G R

Coming up to this section, put your index finger on green and get your middle finger positioned right above the red. Strum when you get to the first green, then just don't strum anymore and press down with your red finger. Lift up before the next note, then press down, then lift up, then press down. Try in on the slowest speed first, and work up to full speed. This should at least introduce you to how hammer-ons and lift-offs are done.

EDIT: You know what, I guess this assumes that you have GHIII in your possession right now. Do you?

EDIT EDIT: And thanks, Tak, that's a great tip. I'll have to listen next time I practice that.

Not yet, I should have it in a week or so when my brother sends it to me.

I can't play GH2 because I lost the DVD. I suppose I should just pawn the controller.

Apparently this became the thread for Rock Band too.

So guess what new bonus track there is?

Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld!

They've also got some awesome DLC planned. I can't wait to play Buddy Holly.

I have a PS2 guitar, and he's sending me the wii version.

Hell, if anyone wants to buy it off me, I'll give you a good deal. It has a Topato Potato sticker on it (which I may remove if I can, cause it's kickass) but otherwise has no other mars or anything on it.

Oh my GOD!! I need to buy Rock Band now!!!!

It's just looking totally awesome.. I would love to get better at the drums. And it has the song I'm currently obsessed with, "Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambria. Damn lack of funds!!!
