Pencils used to contain lead. Only in modern times did they switch to graphite, presumably when the poisonous qualities of lead were better understood. So referring to them as lead is based on historical precedent and old habit.
Also, I would not recommend forcing anti segregation laws on your bag of chex mix by shaking it up before opening it. Unless you like lots of crumbs, that is.
I got myself one of those mini fridges for such a purpose, which is full of Diet Coke, Lilt and Vimto. The only carbonated drinks worth drinking in my opinion.

Speaking of food: I want some!
Pencils were always made of graphite, not lead. It's called the "lead" because when the first (and only) deposit of nearly pure graphite was found the people who found it didn't know what it was and thought it was some weird form of lead. They never used actual lead to make pencils, though (but the Romans did use sticks of lead for writing.)
Graphite was originally discovered in England after a violent storm broke some trees leaving a graphite deposit visible under the roots. Graphite was soon used to write but it was very fragile so it had to be wrapped in a string and later inserted into a perforated cedar wood stick. Early cedar pencils were made of a solid piece of wood but modern pencils are made with two halves glued together with the lead between them.
I feel much less nervous about the pecil point that's been stuck in my leg since 3rd grade now.
Oh yeah, food. I like takoyaki. It's make from tako. And I recently noticed a guy that sells then 8 for 300 yen right across the street from me. That rocks.
We're not doing anything for the fourth. I’m not sure why, but I’m pretty sure it’s because my parents are immigrants, but usually we go to Virginia Beach or Ocean City, to celebrate with our American uncle. Oh, and we're having lasagna, joy!

They also wrote on wax tablets, using metal sticks to scrape their writing into it.
