I want to follow them for the young, impressionable, nubile children.

I think they make some good, valid points. Jesus and I are thrilled that someone is finally putting all this "science" and "facts" stuff in their respective places, which is more specifically out of our schools and museums and into wacky sci-fi shows. Children should be taught to blindly accept faith in spite of all evidence to the contrary, not question and think about things critically. I know many of you disagree with this perspective, and well, I've only one thing to say to that. Jesus and I love you.

How dare you question my BELIEF in SCIENCE! I live in America DAMMIT! And i'm free to believe in whatever I wish! Even whether it be Jesus or SCIENCE! They both require a leap of faith after all. Just because I blindly follow my unproven SCIENcE!tific principles is no reason to hate me. I just wana be loved by the giant Spaghetti Monster. Is that so wrong?
  • edited April 2008
Depending on what you mean by being "loved by the gaint Spaghetti Monster" I may or may not be prepared to call it some iteration of the word wrong, but it's definitely probably not wrog.
  • edited April 2008
    Why, whatever do you mean?
  • edited April 2008
Well, the long and short of it is that spellcheck is your friend. It doesn't care what you believe.

    Jesus and I love spellcheck.

Sounds like catty bullshit in it's most fucked up form. So much is wrong with this situation. ugh.

Girl killed herself over online hoax
DARDENNE PRAIRIE, Mo. - Megan Meier thought she had made a new friend in cyberspace when a cute teenage boy named Josh contacted her on MySpace and began exchanging messages with her.

Megan, a 13-year-old who suffered from depression and attention deficit disorder, corresponded with Josh for more than a month before he abruptly ended their friendship, telling her he had heard she was cruel.

The next day Megan committed suicide. Her family learned later that Josh never actually existed; he was created by members of a neighborhood family that included a former friend of Megan's.

Now Megan's parents hope the people who made the fraudulent profile on the social networking Web site will be prosecuted, and they are seeking legal changes to safeguard children on the Internet.

The girl's mother, Tina Meier, said she doesn't think anyone involved intended for her daughter to kill herself.

This probably sounds insensitive to the family's ordeal, but I really don't want them to seek "legal changes." I know there is more to this story than "a neighboring family decided to be mean to a teenage girl and safeguards were not ensued to stop it." If only people would glance at their "cruel-spiteful-bitch" meter more often, I'm sure an article like this could have been avoided.

If you live in America, and you are depressed, you are a fucking douchebag. You never have to worry about food, you can get an education, you don't suffer from human rights violations, you are not victims of rampant political corruption, and you don't have people trying to enact genocide on you, your family, and everyone you love. GROW THE FUCK UP.

As for attention deficit disorder, you don't need drugs to cure it. South Park had it right, all you have to do is hit your kid and tell them to study. Discipline, bitches.
  • edited April 2008
South Park, as usual, is wrong about everything.

First, I'll say I'm glad you're getting your mulitcultural experience and broadening your perspective. That said, there's a big problem with your argument there. It assumes that those are the only things that are depressing, because no one in the US has suffered abuse, lived with alcoholic / drug addicted parents, been a victim of racism or sexism, beaten / mocked for their sexuality, or any other number of things that could lead to chronic depression. Yes, there are some parts of the world with substantial, wide spread problems. That doesn't mean there aren't individuals with problems.
  • edited April 2008
Okay, I concede, there are people with legitimate problems. I should have specified for people who grow up in fairly well off circumstances who believe that their world is one of misery and pain. I admit, I grew up in a fairly well-adjusted family life, so those are things I sometimes forget. I can't imagine how terrible it must be to be in those types of lifestyles.

But I still stand by my anger at people who DO have an overall good life who choose suicide. The reason why people in the US who believe their nice life is not so good and end up killing themselves infuriates me is that I see plenty of people every day who would do almost anything to have the lives they do. Over the years, I have kept up with world news as best I could and read about what is going on outside the borders. It's easier to find out about world news when you don't live in the US, but nonetheless, I have kept up.

But I have never really seen these things until now. When I buy my breakfast every day, I pay the lady working there 1.5 yuan, or about a dime for a big ass egg/flour burrito thingie. That shop is busy in the morning during rush hour, but they can't pull in more than $20 a day at best. Those people who run those shops are not rich. Their hands are burned and calloused from a lifetime of hard work. Given the price of supplies, rent, utilities, materials, and everything else that a business has to pay for, they live a subsistence lifestyle. They're not going to retire rich. They're going to retire when they physically can't work anymore.

I live in a good neighborhood, I live kiddy corner to a police station and across the street from a playground. Yet within a mile radius of me there are 5, count em, 5 sex houses, and I haven't even looked that hard yet. These women who work there, they are migrant workers from rural, underdeveloped parts of China. They are too poor to afford an education, so they cannot do any meaningful work. They came to the city looking for a job, but this was all they could find. Most of them don't even tell their families far away what they do, they just send money home whenever they can. They get degrading and insulting amounts of pocket change for sex, and they don't even have the authority or standing to request their customers use protection. When asked why they do what they do, they cry. Every single one cries.

That's why it pisses me off when people in developed parts of the world kill themselves because some guy doesn't like them.
  • edited April 2008
Hey, if I were you, I would totally take a couple of those women and fix em up with some cash, so maybe they can start a better life.

    But 5? Holy shit.
  • edited April 2008
I've actually had that conversation with someone else before. If I could, I would seriously just go into one of those houses, give each girl a small portion of my paycheck, and tell them to just go back home.

But then where does it end? My city has hundreds of those houses. Every major city does. I can't save them all. I can't even afford to save but two or three girls. Even then, it's only a temporary fix. I can't help them get an education, and even so, they still need to send money back to support their families. They are essentially trapped.

    Man's money consumed by termites
A trader in the Indian state of Bihar has lost his life savings after termites infesting his bank's safe deposit boxes ate them up.

Dwarika Prasad had deposited currency notes and investment papers worth hundreds of thousands of rupees in a bank safe in the state capital Patna.

The bank says it put up a notice warning customers of the termites.

Mr Prasad says he did not see it in time as he did not go to the bank for months after the notice went up.

Bank officials admit they did not inform the customers individually about the termite problem.

    'Shattered'

"I'm shattered. I do not know what to do as I had kept the money for my old age," Mr Prasad said.

The trader says he had deposited 450,000 rupees ($11,000) in currency notes, investment papers worth 232,000 rupees ($5,660) and some gold and silver jewellery in a safe deposit box of the government-owned Central Bank of India.

Mr Prasad says that relations with his wife and children were strained and he wanted to put the money in the safe box to keep it safe from them.

He started using the safe box in September 2005.

He says when he opened it on 29 January, there was nothing in the safe except termite dust and remains of currency notes and that his investment papers were "badly perforated".

The white ants did not even spare the ornaments and their sheen has vanished, he says.

"I wrote to the head office of the Central Bank of India and the regional offices of the Reserve Bank of India," Mr Prasad says. "Even after two months, I'm waiting for a response from them."

Bank authorities say they put up a notice, dated 8 May 2007, outside the locker room warning customers about the termite infestation.

They advised customers to remove their documents and papers from their safe.

"We received a few complaints of termites in safe deposit boxes so after putting on the notice, we got pesticides sprayed in the bank," said bank manager YP Saha.

Mr Saha says the customer cannot blame the bank because he did not find his locker broken or damaged.

"The bank is not liable for the deposits kept inside the safe as it is only when a locker is found broken that the bank is answerable," he said.

Bank authorities say they have forwarded Mr Prasad's complaint to higher authorities but they say he is not entitled to any compensation for his loss.

    Rupees!!

    DADADADAAAAAAAAA
  • edited April 2008
That is REALLY fucked up. Seriously? If you're an institution designed to keep money safe, you need to realize that not all damage or destruction comes from human interlopers.
  • edited April 2008
I dunno. I think I'd consider a digested box to be "damaged".
  • edited April 2008
I imagine the termites just went in through the tiny creases around the lid and ate everything, the box is probably unharmed.

That's still horrible and total crap on the banks part.

Parents Fight Over Which Gang Toddler Should Join
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- A couple fighting about which gang their 4-year-old toddler should join caused a public disturbance that resulted in the father's arrest, Commerce City police said Thursday.

On Saturday, Joseph Manzanares stormed into the Hollywood Video store where his girlfriend worked, threatened to kill her and knocked over several video displays and even a computer, Commerce City police Sgt. Joe Sandoval said.

After he ran out of the store, police were called and the 19-year-old was arrested at his home.

His girlfriend told police that they had been arguing about the upbringing of their son and which gang he should belong to. The teen mother, who is black, is a member of the Crips. Manzanares is Hispanic and belongs to the Westside Ballers gang, the woman said.

"They have different ideas on how the baby should be raised. Basically, she said they cannot agree on which gang the baby would 'claim,'" Sandoval said.

Manzanares was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment, and domestic violence. He was transported to the Adams County Detention Facility.

On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to a year of probation. The misdemeanor harassment charge was dropped.

...Does it bother anyone else how much idiots get to have sex?
  • edited April 2008
Nah. Because with that retardedness, their offspring should easily stick a fork into a power outlet of some sort/get shot in a gangland killing.

Plus most people seem to be in America which is the opposite side of the planet to where all the cool people hang out.
  • edited April 2008
i beg to differ. all the cool people are in Cahl-ee-forn-nya. just ask the governator.

Doesn't bother me. Same as global warming (if it were real), even if the earth is ruined by stupid people breeding, it's unlikely to happen in my lifetime, so feck 'em.

Don't the parents realize that this child, born from the union of two different gangs, could be the Chosen One as foretold by Crip prophesy? He could finally bring the opposing factions together!

Yes, but, ironically, while banning that, they vote in their state legislatures by whichever of their cousins (They're all related down there) gets raped the most (One represents yes, One no)
