You're getting a trailer a day. Until I run out of movies. Which could be quite some time.

    Somebody start a count.

Today you get Rock Jocks, I'd expect a few of you will have at least heard of it if only due to Felicia Day's involvement. I found it to be pretty enjoyable and there are a few excellent scenes. It did drag a little bit in the middle though.

Today you get It's a Disaster. An quirky little black comedy that is well worth checking out.

I can only go so long without posting a zombie flick. Check out The Battery. It's a micro-budget minimalist movie that is an amazing character study of a couple of guys trying to survive the zombocalypse. There's very little in the way of actual zombie killing here, but surprisingly it doesn't suffer for it.

How did I not see all these sooner? They are pretty great. Admittedly Rock Jocks looks the most interesting.

I'd say that 'It's a Disaster' is the best out of the five there. But watching Rock Jocks is definitely a good way to spend 90-odd minutes.

For todays trailer I present to you A Fantastic Fear of Everything starring the ever-awesome Simon Pegg. It blends comedy, absurdity, darkness and Simon Pegg into a pretty unique movie that is pretty much guaranteed to entertain.

Today I am feeling the need for a ludicrous alien movie. Alien Opponent should do the trick nicely.

Starring Jeremy London and Roddy Piper!

$100,000 doesn't seem like a huge amount for killing some big alien cyborg-lookin' thing, but somehow it seems funnier that way.

I have a hangover! Have a trailer! Alter Egos!

In honour of illithid's spiffy new teaching gig, how about an education based movie? Welcome to the Class of 1999, a dystopian future (well, past now I guess) where the school systems are overwhelmed by violent crime and Malcolm McDowell is a principal.

What's the solution? Why ex-military combat robots re-programmed to be teachers of course! There's no way that'd go wrong. Also starring Pam Grier, as one of the robots, and Stacy Keach as an evil scientist.

This movie has it all. Crazy gang costumes, explosions, hokey one-liners, crazy robot FX. All round good fun.

There is also an excellent sequel to this movie Class of 1999 II: The Substitute.

Today we're going with a video game movie. Ace Attorney, based on the Phoenix Wright games.

I'll admit, I never actually played the games but I did really enjoy this movie. It's funny, exceedingly stylish and all round good fun.

  • edited August 2013
The games are pretty rockin. But.... the video is not available anymore!
  • edited August 2013
    How so?
  • edited August 2013
It just says "video not available". Maybe it's only available in Australia? Aren't you an Aussie or am I making that up?
  • edited August 2013
    Doesn't work for me either.

They have it on YouTube if you search for Gyakuten Saiban movie.

    Crazy. Australia fail.

Try this one. You have to hit the 'show annotations' button for the subtitles.

Today I present No One Lives. A twist on the usual slasher model, with the hunter/prey role switching over very early in the film. It's well-paced and doesn't skimp on the gore. Plus rednecks getting slaughtered is always fun viewing.

Time to go retro again with the 1989 film, Blind Fury. Starring Rutger Hauer as a sort of American Zatoichi (sans the masseur career) Blind Fury has a lot of action, spectacular one-liners and a heaping of total badassery.

Embedding disabled? Oh well. Good stuff right there.

The Phoenix Wright thing is too much subtitle reading for me. I'm too lazy to read subtitles. I was never cut out to be an anime nerd.

Monkey Shines! The tale of a quadriplegic man and his evil helper monkey. Need I say more? How about it was directed by the undisputed King of Zombies: George A. Romero?

The premise for this movie is ludicrous. But it somehow works. Plus there is heaps of adorable capuchin action tempered by murderous capuchin action.

  • edited August 2013
Huh. And just like that funny little monkeys are sorta scary.

How about Orangutans? You should watch Link. He's an adorable orangutan butler, oh wait he's murdering the fuck out of a bunch of people.

  • edited August 2013
Orangutans aren't really "little" monkeys. They can be a little creepy if they like.

If you keep this up someone might start seeing monkeys coming out of their closet just to point dramatically at them.

I'm pretty stumped for another. None of the various King Kong movies are in any way scary. Planet of the Apes is an awesome flick, but it's still not quite there. The Lawnmower Man has a bit of monkey with a gun action. But that's right at the beginning for all of two minutes. 28 Days Later has some monkey murderin', but once again it's just a tiny bit at the beginning.

Sadly trained monkeys seem to have been used for hokey comedies rather than their potential for mass murder.

I think the best I can do today is Rites of Passage. It's a good little slasher/hallucinogen/comedy of errors movie with an excellent cast. Plus it has a cracked out Christian Slater talking to Pancho: an imaginary sock monkey.

    Aachi and Ssipak

This movie is insane and awesome. With the insanity dialed up to 11.

I think I watched this with Flint way back in the day.

Lockout. Awesome popcorn movie. Explosions, cheesey one liners, a cynical antihero, more explosions all IN SPAAAAAAAAACE! Good fun as long as you don't think too hard.

Anybody got any genre requests? Or favoured actors? Or whatever. Failing that you'll be getting a full zombie week, starting tomorrow.
  • edited August 2013
Zombie week it is! We'll start at the classier end with La Horde. It's in French and it actually has a pretty decent budget. The plot is pretty simple: Enemies forced to unite together against a greater foe (in this case a shitload of zombies), but the action and pacing is excellent. It also has a very good rate of escalation as the movie goes on.

Judging by the US trailer I looked at, I'd stick with a subtitled version.

Zombie movies day 2 - Something a little bit more contemporary with Rise of the Zombies!

The cast in this is great. You have Danny Trejo as a badass, Ethan Suplee as surprisingly badass, LeVar Burton as the worst scientist ever and even French Stewart as a lunatic scientist.

Zombie movies day 3 - The Zombie King. This movie is largely nonsensical plot-wise. But there is some amusing dialogue here and there. Plus you've got both Edward Furlong and Corey Feldman hamming it up to a high degree.
