Everyone and their dog was dancing around like they had to pee when they saw the official Smash Bros. site start to count down toward some mysterious end...
Well so far, it seems to look and play identically to the original game, and throws in a handful of new characters (with the possible omission of previous characters, though nothing's confirmed yet). It pretty much is gonna be Melee with online play. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but I'd like to see some more substantial additions to the gameplay, in the same way the 'Cube title expanded vastly on the original. They've got those über-powerful new attacks, but those look more boring and cheap-ass than anything (and will mostly be yet another incentive to disable items in serious human-on-human battles).
I can only assume it's in that level instead of the menu screens, so at least we'll get some variety. Maybe Smash Bros. songs are getting old enough to be considered classic Nintendo tunes?
Sakurai has started creating entries about the game's characters. Hopefully this means we'll see some newly confirmed cast members soon, but of course I gotta geek out over Link's glamor shots. Lookin' good there, kiddo.
Hey, I appreciate the elaboration on how Pit's Palutena Arrow attack is controlled. Sounds like it'll require fast and precise analog stick movement to get the arrow where you want it.
The free flight thing sounds intriguing. I wonder how much more effective and refined it will be over Kirby's five-jump or Peach's hover.
Maybe it'll be his Final Smash attack. Or maybe the eggplant will be an item you can throw at people that disables their B-attacks temporarily. I really want this to be the case.
You know, I was thinking about this and was hoping they would allow a number of control schemes. Sounds like they hit every one I thought of and added another.
I'm very curious as to how analog movement will work with a digital pad (when using Wii Remote sideways as your control scheme of choice). Maybe it'll implement controller-tilting?
At this point, I think I'll go with Wii Remote + Nunchuck. Maybe? WaveBirds are cool too.
A true Smash master will be able to smite all opponents with any control scheme. I'm just theorizin' what I'm more likely to use. But you're right, I may end up being a diehard sideways-Wii-Remote kind of guy.
Know what doesn't seem like a good thing for replay value? Fox's ugly mug. They had so many great character designs to go with, and they pick the only-a-mother-could-love-ass-ugly version from Star Fox Command.
Okay, maybe he's not all that bad, but he does look a little chibi. I've seen him look badass before, so this is a considerable step backward.

"If you had to call it something, I'd say it's almost like a sport."
No, it's a video game. Either that guy takes this way too seriously, or he's an idiot. Probably both.
Also, many forms of fighting are also sports. You confused yet?
Also,
According to Nintendo Power, it's THE most anticipated. Fact.
Also, I love the previous games, but this one gives me a bad feeling.
I love this "damage makes enemies fly farther" feature!
Also, I kinda wish they hadn't re-used the Melee music for the Battlefield level. I'm kinda tired of it.
Oh well, at least it's new news.

EVERYBODY FREAK OUT
This is the best news yet. The game will support the following control options:
Wiimote + Nunchuk, Classic, Gamecube, Wiimote turned sideways.
I'm totally scooping myself here, because I'm writing the story right now.

EDIT: oh, and maybe it'll use multitouch...
