I still have my launch X-box. It takes 20 minutes to start up though, need to get a new one at some point.

I FUCKING HATE THE XBOX 360. Every day I work I have to make bullshit excuses to these poor people who have had 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 recurrences of the red rings on their Xboxes. And there's nothing we can do because we can't do anything more than stick a band-aid on it.

These people and their frustration has stained my view on that system so much. PS3 forevah.

Oh noes, people bought a system with a known issue and then got angry when it came up, as it was basically guaranteed to do.

Fact: The styles of games found on the PS3 and 360 differ drastically. I prefer those on the 360, greatly, to most of those on the PS3. No reason to like the PS3 better as far as I tell though. It has a tendency to blow up when people use the disk drive too often.

... wait, no reason to like the PS3 better? I think the absence of the red ring is a pretty big reason. And having a Blu-Ray player is nice for the future. The Slim 360 has eliminated this, but it's also nice to have Wi-Fi capability with the system instead of having to buy a $100 dongle or hooking it up with an ethernet cable.

But really, you're right, it comes down to preference, particularly with the exclusives and the controllers.

But, out of curiosity... what exclusives are you referring to that you like better?

EDIT: I should also make clear that these multiple occurrences of the red rings occur on systems we've sold and tried to fix. The techs will get it working again and give it back to the customer and there's only the barest hint in the terms of service that there's actually no way to permanently fix the red ring. So the owner claims that he can repair red-ringed systems when really he can't.

Well the Halo games for one thing. I really cant think of many others... Sad I know.

Other than that I like X-Box live much more than I do PSN, and I despise the PlayStation controllers.

The PS3 has it's fair share of problems too, Sony doing unreasonable things like removing the other OS feature, and as I said, its disk drive is cheap and unreliable.

That's just the PS2, not the PS3, I checked all over the damn place to make sure the laser wasn't gonna die when I started using the PS3 to watch DVDs. ALSO the PS2 laser would burn out regardless of DVDs or games, it just wasn't built to last terribly long. As far as my research (not much) went, they got a way better laser for the PS3.
  • edited July 2010
Yes, and my research resulted in finding out that though the laser is a'okay on the PS3, the disk drive has a habit of breaking itself.

They should make all games and game systems fixable by blowing on them.

OH!!! Disc drive, I apologize for my terrible reading skills.

I suspect the new "slim" x-boxes would be better about not killing themselves. Although they are still fickle and may eat your discs.
  • edited July 2010
But only if you're freaking dumb and move it like you're NEVER EVER EVER supposed to do with ANYTHING with a CD drive while it's running. (Laptops being an exception. Because they're designed properly.)
  • edited July 2010
Actually some reports are coming in that the new slim 360s are doing it too. Only now you can't get red rings. You get the red dot of death.
  • edited July 2010
To be fair though when I bought the 360 the RRoD wasn't quite as out there as it is now. There were a couple occurrences but nothing like the "HAPPENS EVERY TIME LOL" that I seem to be seeing now.

I red ringed, but I wouldn't get a new xbox right at release. I would definitely wait a while, so they have time to figure out how to build a goddamn console. Also I definitely wouldn't get a new one while my old one is running perfect, even with the promises that these new fangled ones are "ready for kinect." After all, Kinect isn't just another terrible motion control gimmick that has proven to be just plain unlikable throughout the past few years. If the Wii hasn't produced a solid game with motion control, how are any of the other developers going to? The only things about this new xbox that excite me are the built-in wifi which should have been standard on the first one, and one thing that actually looks interesting in Kinect, the ability to actually hand pick all of the slides on the xbox dashboard. Other than that, fuck the new xbox.

Yeah, you would think Microsoft would be able to build a working console.

Well, I guess now we know why they're not a hardware company, ehy?
  • edited July 2010
Probably because they're not as great as making these as the nipponese companies that are sony and nintendo. I've like had those systems since I was like a little girl and all of them still work (excpet like my first PS2 but like, we all like can understand oh wait my first psx did too) but like you know.

I remember like my first super awesome boyfriend had like this really cool 360 and we were totally playing this game that should have been on my super awesome PS3, but it wasn't, then it RED RINGED on him. All I could like do was laugh at him because he didn't buy a PS3 like I had and like, it was funny.

But no, eventually I got one and they're pretty cool now I guess, specially since I waited like three years for them to come out with a version that wont crap out on me so fast, I guess. But yeah.

That kinect thing, and as much as it pains me to say, the Move, are totally rip-offs and pretty lame. Like the Kinect thing, that is mis-used technology. No one wants to be ACTING drunk all the time while gaming (might as well get drunk! Haha).

Replaying KOTOR reminds me of how much Mass Effect stole from it.

Bioware likes to reuse big chunks of their games.

Many, many flash games on Newgrounds.

    Most recently Exmortis 2.

I dunno if I'd call it stealing as it's the same company, borrowed sure, but stole?

So basically you can't afford an xbox. Got it.

Not all of us are made of money, and even if I was I'm not sure I would be okay with spending my arm for an X-Box
  • edited July 2010
Can't I play Flash games because I think the Xbox is akin to shit?
  • edited July 2010
Indeed. Seriously, a GAME console the breaks itself when you play GAMES with it? I think Microsoft may be missing the point here.
  • edited July 2010
I think everyone knows what everyone's console preference is by now.

Seriously, it seems like somebody restarts this argument pretty much every few months.
  • edited July 2010
I'm sorry if I like a console with games on it.
  • edited July 2010
And I'm a PC guy who thinks 90% of the hit games for the xbox are nigh unplayable without a keyboard and mouse, yet I'm sure nobody cares enough to even click the link. You'll only do it because I said you wouldn't. Otherwise I'm with Jon. I feel like we've argued such points enough.

It's still the same old games for me for what gaming I do. I actually was much more interested in a good book recently than playing games, so I guess I haven't really been playing much of anything, other than a round of Settlers of Catan, some L4D2, and more Titan Quest.
  • edited July 2010
Yeah, it is a pretty lame argument. As a note though, I don't actually dislike the X-Box, I just find it hilarious that Microsoft can't build a not broken console. (Plus I don't really like FPS games and that's basically all that's on the X-Box that isn't on the PS3.)

    I don't want an Xbox, I'm getting a PS3. :D
